🚌 Have your say on taking back control of our buses 🚌 Today we’ve launched a 12-week public consultation to find out what you think about our proposals to introduce bus franchising in South Yorkshire to take control of the depots, bus fleet, routes and fares to make sure buses work better for the public. It will have an impact on the lives of people who live, work, study and visit South Yorkshire, so please take a look at the consultation document and fill in the short or long questionnaire: https://lnkd.in/eZ6sm7bD

Following our public consultation, the Police and Crime Panel has unanimously backed the proposal to increase the policing element of council tax. This £14 per year increase in the police precept for Band D properties (£9.33 for Band A) will help South Yorkshire Police tackle knife crime, anti-social behaviour, and improve road safety. It’s National Apprenticeship Week! 🎉 In December 2023 South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, launched the South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Hub—with the aim of driving up the quality and number of apprenticeships across our region. Our goal? To equip people with the right skills to access opportunities wherever they are in South Yorkshire. Since then, we’ve already supported 191 apprentices on their journey, and we’re just getting started! Follow South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Hub this week as they celebrate successes and share how they’re making a difference. 🔗 Discover apprenticeship opportunities in South Yorkshire: https://lnkd.in/eUYQGzpq #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW25

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard visited Sheffield Childrens Hospital to see first-hand how the new CT scanner & helipad are transforming care for young patients. The £1.95m scanner speeds up diagnoses, reduces anxiety, and even talks in a Yorkshire accent! Meanwhile, the £6m helipad ensures quicker, safer transfers for major trauma patients. As one of the five paediatric major trauma centres in the UK, Sheffield Children’s Hospital is leading the way in specialist care, and we’re proud to work with them to support a healthier future for children in our region, and for others around the UK. We love to see planting in action! 🌳 Want to plant your own trees? Check out how to get involved: https://lnkd.in/etW9vKY6
Trees and shrubs from Oliver Coppard’s Million Trees Campaign arrived last week and planting commenced! 🌳 On Thursday, our volunteers were out on Manor Fields Park working on one of the areas planted up with trees last year as part of The Woodland Trust funded woodland creation project. Our volunteers were pleased to discover that the area was looking good, with around fifty strong trees doing well (this included predominantly large species such as lime). They then planted shrubs and small tree species around the large ones, such as dogwood, blackthorn, dogrose and elder. If successful, our volunteers hope to create a small mixed woodland consisting of trees, shrubs and open space 💚 South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority
