University of Leicester delegation visit NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The team, including Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nishan Canagarajah, and Chancellor, Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock, visited the world-leading centre for space exploration. Space Park Leicester and the University are partnering with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration on a number of space projects and missions including the Habitable Worlds Observatory. The Stateside visit included meetings with partners and the University’s West Coast-based alumni. The delegation linked up with the British Government’s Consul General, Paul Rennie OBE, for talks with the University of Los Angeles California (UCLA) about UK higher education partnerships in the USA. The ESA / JAXA #BepiColombo mission launched #OnThisDay in 2018. 🚀 BepiColombo will be the third spacecraft to visit Mercury and will increase our understanding of the planet's composition, structure, atmosphere and magnetic environment. 🌕 Much of the spacecraft was built in the UK, including the University of Leicester’s MIXS instrument, which will use X-rays to study the planet's surface. 🛰️ Read more about the UK’s involvement in the mission. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDGP2B9q

It’s based on the work done there for The Soft X-ray Imager (SXI) on the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE).
