What a difference 10 weeks made for FRP Advisory, Brentwood. With their lease renewal approaching, FRP Advisory needed a workspace that truly reflected their brand values and encouraged collaboration. With 10,000 sq ft, their old layout was inefficient, with oversized meeting rooms, an underutilised reception, and a lack of energy 💤 Our goal? To inject vibrancy, relatability, and purpose back into their office. Within 10 weeks, we introduced FRP’s bold red brand colours, softened them with textures and calming hues, and added a smarter layout with booths and high benches. These changes transformed communication, making the space more inviting and productive. You’d be surprised what you can do with a space when you stop thinking about its limitations, and instead start focusing on its potential. The sensation of a space feeling ‘too small’ is often less about square footage, and more about poor furniture choice, unoptimised office space, and aesthetic choices that restrict where they should unlock 🔓 We’ve helped a number of different companies get more from a small workspace. Here are some hard and fast rules we tend to abide by: 🎨 Go with a light colour palette: we’re not saying anything revolutionary here, but lighter colours tend to open up the space. Opt for professional whites or creams to make the room feel more expansive. 🪑 Minimalist furniture, maximised space: nothing makes a space feel smaller than having to slalom around desk corners, so go for smaller, minimalist pieces that are still well-made and functional. 👥 Be mindful with placement: your people need workspaces that feel like their own sanctuary, but can also be easily navigated. It’s a tough balancing act to get right, but it's worth pursuing. 💡 Let there be light: good lighting can change everything. Natural light is best, so consider structuring the office around the places it touches. If natural light is limited, go for lamps that mimic soft daylight. 🙇🏽♀️ Reframe your mindset: stop thinking of your office as a space that isn’t big enough; start thinking of it as a space that hasn’t been unlocked yet. Trust us: your workspace is as big as you make it. When reworked and optimised, a small workspace can feel gigantic. In 2023, Spacio brought Birketts LLP workplace vision to life. Not only was the project a joy to work on, it also reflected Spacio’s guiding design principle: putting people first 👥 The Brief 💼 Birkett's required a workplace that was modern, professional, and inspiring — one that would complement their next-level services and align with their agile working culture. Already in good shape, the 15,000 sq. ft space had plenty of untapped potential. But it was clear the space needed a significant update, a full layout revamp, and a fresh, contemporary aesthetic. In typical Spacio fashion, our approach centred around putting the human experience at the forefront. Our designers planned an office that was open, vibrant, and collaborative, with specific neighbourhoods for distinct teams. The redesign prioritised both aesthetics and functionality in each area, never letting one outpace the other, striking that perfect balance of form and function that drives every great workspace. And we think we did something truly great here — more importantly, the client thought so too. If the client’s happy, we’re happy. And if the project just so happens to represent everything Spacio strives for in terms of design philosophy?
