 After a three-month renovation, the iconic Devil’s Point staircase, fondly known as the “Stairway to Devon” is back at Royal William Yard. The Plymouth depot team at Sparrow Crane Hire was proud to help lift and reinstall this award-winning 63-step landmark with the help of our Volvo FH540 with a FASSI 710 Hiab crane. Now reconnecting visitors along the South West Coast Path Association, this historic gem is set to welcome heritage enthusiasts for years to come. Click to read more about the staircase

Located on a hill overlooking the port of Dartmouth, Devon, England. This college serves as the initial training establishment for Royal Naval officers which has taken place in Dartmouth since 1863. 🛸 Autonomous craft shaping our future. We were lucky enough to lift a USV (Uncrewed Surface Vehicle) into the water for trials at the Turnchapel Wharf in Plymouth. This Hydrogen powered craft was built by ACUA Ocean, who are revolutionising full ocean monitoring and data collection. The 300tn contract lift was fully planned by Jon Giddings and Logistics via our Plymouth Depot and Heavy Cranes Department but the star of the show was our Liebherr LTM1300-6.3 with 42te ballast. All Aboard 🛳️ We’re excited to share these photos from a recent tandem lift at the ABP Ferry Terminal in Plymouth, where we installed a brand-new passenger walkway. Our Liebherr LTM1060-3.1 took the lead on this project, helping ensure passengers will have a smoother boarding process onto the ferries. This lift was orchestrated by our dedicated Plymouth Depot team, under the supervision of Darren White, with Frank Blatzheim operating the 60t crane. A 90t crane was also brought in via rehire, thanks to the strong local relationships forged by Peter Daniel and Tim, who’ve built our reputation on honesty and integrity. Their hard work and collaboration with trusted partners allowed us to deliver a seamless tandem lift and keep the project on schedule. ⛵️ Another successful lift over in Totnes, Devon. This time, we used one of our Demag AC100-4L cranes to carefully hoist a yacht from the water onto dry land. The AC100-4L is a versatile all-terrain crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tonnes and an impressive reach, making it ideal for projects that demand precision and power. 😱😱😱 We needed FOUR CRANES for this lift!!! This was a complex lift planned and managed by Sparrow Crane Hire for our super yacht manufacturing customer who needed our help to rotate a newly built 'hull tool mould' in Lee-on-the-Solent. The images show three Liebherr 1060 3.1 Mobile Cranes (60t AT) and one Terex AC100-4L (100t AT) Mobile Crane, performing a rotational lift, classified as a complex lift as well as a “four crane lift”! Once successfully rotated and lowered, the hull tool was loaded onto transport and moved to Lee-on-the-Solent Jetty, where a 750t Liebherr crane lifted it onto a barge for shipping from the Solent to Plymouth. On arrival in Plymouth, our Liebherr LTM1200 crane offloaded the hull tool mould safely utilising a H-frame lifting beam to help lift securely. The U3 hull tool is now in Plymouth, ready to begin work on a new super yacht construction project.
