About us

StandOut's mission is that more people leaving prison are empowered to transform their own lives, realise their potential, and escape the justice system for good. We do that through intensive programmes for people inside prison, followed by 1:1 coaching and holistic support after release for as long as required. Proud winner of the Robin Corbett Award 2021.

It's #TrusteesWeek! It's the time of year when we celebrate the amazing contributions made by our trustees for our charity, and recognise the difference they make. We'd like to say a huge thank you to our Trustees for their commitment to our work to empower more people to rebuild their lives after prison.

This update from one of our Lead Coaches, Sophie, was too good not to share: “Just out of HMP Wormwood Scrubs after an afternoon discussing resilience and empathy with former participants. The men really engaged with all the activities: drawing what resilience looks like to them (which should all be hung in a gallery somewhere); writing a letter to themselves in 3 months’ time with what they may need to hear in the midst of future challenges; and engaging in a lively and incredibly honest and vulnerable discussion about overcoming adversity and managing emotions. We then discussed empathy, and the men stepped in to coaching each other around how to find empathy in situations where someone is being unkind or treating you poorly. One participant shared about a struggle he was having with an officer, whilst the others encouraged him to think that there may be things in her life affecting how she shows up to work. For a lot of the afternoon, Amrit and I sat back in awe as the men led the discussion seamlessly, all engaging each other and encouraging each other to make positive choices!”

Last week, our Experts Beyond Bars (EBB) met for the first of two sessions focused on 'Using Your Voice'. Our coaching consultant, Jo Wheeler, encouraged our Experts to reflect on how they use their voices to create impact and influence in their lives. The group explored theories and techniques for enhancing your speech, and adapting communication styles to suit different settings. Our experts identified what they wanted to work on, including areas such as pace, pitch, and clarity. One Expert reflected at the end of the session "I don't think I utilise my voice as much as I could" and another highlighted "it's so important to communicate well to the people we care about". Huge thanks to our Experts for joining, and for all they contribute!

It's not too late to donate to support our Royal Parks Half - London runners, who ran earlier this month in support of our vital work. Rebuilding a life after prison isn't easy. But each donation - large or small - will help us ensure that more people leave prison empowered to transform their lives, realise their potential, and leave the criminal justice system behind - for good. https://lnkd.in/emZNMJyS

Our runners have clocked their 13.1 miles and their aching legs are well on the road to recovery, but our fundraising page is still open to donations! We're entirely charitably funded, meaning we receive no government money to run our programme in London's prisons. That's why we need people like you to help us ensure that more people leave those prisons empowered to transform their lives, realise their potential, and leave the criminal justice system behind - for good. Help us reach our overall target of £20,000 by donating here:

Huge thanks to our amazing team of Royal Parks Half - London runners who tackled yesterday's 13.1 miles to support our work! Training and running a half marathon is no small feat. We're grateful to each and every one of our runners for the time and effort they put in to race and raise funds to empower more people leaving prison to transform their own lives. If you're feeling inspired, please make all the early morning, blisters, and aching muscles worth it, by donating here: https://lnkd.in/emZNMJyS Pictured: our Trustee, Jamie Giles, and our Head of Programmes, Joe Tarbert.
