Our people passion: Making a difference Established in 2015, Starfish People is an engaging and people focussed outsourced HR consultancy. We provide operational HR support to businesses by way of specialist advice, jargon-free, practical HR solutions. We aim to make a difference by taking care of our client’s human resource needs allowing our clients time to focus on their business. Based near Chichester, West Sussex. We’re proud of the excellent results we’ve achieved for our broad portfolio of clients. Registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and fully General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliant, we take the data protection of our clients and the service we provide to them very seriously. OUR HR SERVICES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: HR outsourcing – We are there to support you in managing the people-related functions within your company. Kickstart package – Designed to help you kick start your businesses internal engine and help to keep it up and running. Employment contracts, terms, and conditions – The agreement between employer and employee as well as employment rights and responsibilities. HR policies and procedures – Rules of conduct for your business to encourage a healthy working environment. Employee handbooks – A resource designed to keep your employees informed and on track, to help your business run smoothly. HR audits and healthcare – An objective review of your current HR policies and procedures to identify best practices and suggestions for improvement. Free HR consultation – We know that as an employer there will be occasions when you would benefit from a quick answer to your HR question or you may want a second opinion on a course of action, so we’d like to help by offering you a 30 minute HR consultation – for free! Most of the time this will be all the advice you need, and if the employment issue is complex and more in-depth advice is required, we can advise you on what the next steps should be.

    And so the series 🕰️ Starfish People HR Time Capsule: Unearthing HR's Hidden Gems 🔍 continues and we are exploring: Punch Cards to Smartphones: Clocking In Through Time ⏱️ Greetings, time-keeping enthusiasts ❕ Today's historical nugget from our HR time capsule might have you looking at your workplace clock-in system in a whole new light ❕ Would you believe that the first known use of a punch card to track employee hours dates all the way back to 1894 ❔ That's right - whilst Queen Victoria was still on the throne, the humble punch card was revolutionising workplace time management ❕ In an age when we simply tap our smartphones or log in remotely, it's rather fascinating to think about workers queuing up to physically punch their cards into a mechanical time clock. Talk about going back to basics ❕ Let's take a quick journey through workplace time-tracking evolution: 1894: Mechanical punch cards 1970s: Electronic time clocks 1990s: Computerised systems Today: Biometric scanners, smartphone apps, and cloud-based solutions It makes you wonder, doesn't it - what would those Victorian-era workers think of our modern methods ❔ They'd likely be gobsmacked by the thought of clocking in from their living rooms ❕ Yet, whilst the technology has changed dramatically, the core principle remains the same: ensuring fair and accurate recording of working hours.     In the hospitality industry ❔ Are you aware that from 1 October 2024, tips must be distributed fairly, transparently and promptly to all workers, including agency staff, under the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023. ➡️ What does the new law mean ❔ 💰You’ll need to ensure that all qualifying tips are allocated fairly to workers. 💰Tips must be paid in full by the end of the month in which they’re received. 💰You’ll need to keep detailed records of tips received and how you’ve allocated them to employees. ➡️ What do you need to do now ❔ To ensure you’re legally compliant, you’ll need to review your current tip allocation processes, develop a clear written policy on tips and train your team to make sure everyone understands the changes. Failure to do so could cost you a lot more than keeping hold of the tips in the first place! ➡️We’re here to help.
