We are proud to work in partnership with University of Cambridge, offering summer placements each year to selected undergraduates. The internships offer an unmatched opportunity to work with the industry's leaders, gaining insights into the latest trends in steel construction and experience being part of SCI's current projects. Nishchal Mistry and Nathan Dimaano, second and third year students respectively, recently completed this year’s placement. Here's what they had to say: 'I was fortunate enough to intern with SCI over the summer break. I found it extremely engaging and eye-opening to see what goes on in steel design, and not to mention my supervisors were very helpful, knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, which made the experience even more valuable. When I graduate, I will still be very open-minded about what job I will pursue. Although I am certainly interested in engineering consultancy. Alternatively, a sector closer to the automotive industry, given it is one of my passions. However, not sure what role yet, although as most engineering disciplines can be applied to this field.' - Nischcal Mistry (left) 'I decided to do an internship at SCI because it seemed like it would be a unique and interesting experience, which it definitely has been. I've enjoyed learning about the industry and hearing different experiences and stories, which I would not have heard if I had worked at a design firm. I plan on specialising in civil and structural at Cambridge, with a few modules in materials and mechanical. Our brand new wind analysis software, SCIPHYR, features in the latest version of MasterSeries - Structural Engineering Software. SCIPHYR has been developed for seamless integration with third party applications using up-to-date data. It allows users to calculate peak velocity pressures (as well as other relevant wind loading data) in 12 directions for a given site location within the UK and Ireland. SCI has also developed SCIPHYR+, an add-on software that uses the SCIPHYR outputs to calculate the wind loading on the walls and roof of buildings.
