About us

Our objective is to use our relatability to empower, educate and mentor young people through imparting knowledge, sharing relatable experiences and giving them a safe place to learn, be heard and stay motivated. We want to provide young people with the strength, mindset as well as the tangible tools to overcome undesired experiences and not let their struggles define them, but rather use this resilient mindset to put them on a level playing field with their more privileged counterparts within society. There are four pillars which form the foundation of our work. We believe that all four pillars are inter-connected and, in order for a young person to reach their full potential, they will need a balance of knowledge across all four areas. We believe exploring these topics at the earliest opportunity will equip young people with tools necessary to make informed decisions that will impact their lives forever. STEP NOW is about prevention and using ourselves as a relatable example to show young people that there are alternatives to gang culture and just settling for mediocrity.

    Barbershops are such an important part of the experience of being a Black man. I remember getting my first fade, my first Nike tick (and other fancy designs shaved in), my first beard trim - and noted at each stage of my journey to adulthood how the conversations changed around me - mostly, because you really can spend all day in a black barbershop! This is such an important initiative. I’m so proud to see this in London Borough of Lambeth 💙

    What an extraordinary moment… STEP NOW featured on national TV yesterday! This truly touches my heart for so many reasons. The journey to date has not been easy, but we’re just getting started. The promise that STEP NOW holds for our community and the young people who will soon be our leaders is profound. I’ve had the privilege of being part of this team for a few years now, and witnessing our growth is a beautiful reminder of the dedication and love that drives us to create genuine, lasting change. As a new mum to a baby boy, this mission resonates even deeper. Every day, I look at my son and my heart swells with hope for his future. Yet, I also feel the weight of the world’s challenges. Knowing that compassionate people still exist, and initiatives like the Barbershop are dedicated to ensuring our boys are seen, heard, and uplifted brings me immense comfort; that together, we can create a world where our children can thrive.
