About us
We imagine a world where all lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning and ace (LGBTQ+) people are free to be themselves. Stonewall was founded in 1989 by a small group of people who wanted to break down barriers to equality. Stonewall continues to campaign and lobby government to change laws to ensure everyone, everywhere, is free to be themselves. Stonewall works in partnership with a growing network of more than 700 organisations to help create real change for the better. It campaigns to eliminate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in communities, and empowers LGBT people and their allies to be role models wherever they live, work, shop, socialise or pray. The Ace in the UK report found that only 1 in 4 ace individuals are open about their sexuality to their friends. Many people said this was due to negative experiences and them feeling misunderstood by society. 💜 Here's some ways you can be an ally to ace people, to ensure they feel seen, understood and safe to be themselves. Last week it was announced that #LGBTQ+ veterans would receive compensation for the historic mistreatment they faced. We welcome the fact that action is finally being taken. But, we’re standing with Fighting With Pride - LGBT+ Military Charity to say: it’s not enough. We’ve signed an open letter to the Prime Minister, urging him to ensure all LGBTQ+ veterans get the compensation they deserve. Find out more ▶️ https://bbc.in/3A9pxlv.
