To celebrate 10 years of Surrey Choices' 'Every Life, Every Chance' ethos, we asked some of our staff members what 'Every Life, Every Chance' means to them: "We are all human beings and all deserve equal opportunities to live fulfilled lives, choosing what we want to do and when we want to do it." - Nicola Field "The care that all Surrey Choices employees take to make sure our customers are listened to and supported in their endeavours to live the best lives they aspire to." - Liz Allen "Everyone has the right to lead a fulfilling life, to be able to live a life filled with the things they enjoy and want to aspire to. I believe there is a job for everyone and that people should be able to live independently, receive the support to do this and be an active part of their local community. Disabled people have dreams too." - Rachael Walker "That every person, no matter who they are, should be given the opportunity to live their best life and be the best version of themselves." - Jessica Clarke What would 'Every Life, Every Chance' mean to you? On Monday, we celebrated 10 years of Surrey Choices with a party at The Lucan Tea Rooms! We laughed, danced and even had some axe-throwing and wood-whittling at a company-wide celebration. We brought together staff, customers, and stakeholders for a day of reflection and joy. The event highlighted the organisation’s journey and the many lives touched by its services over the past ten years. Martin Farrow, managing director at Surrey Choices, said: “It’s incredible to think how far we’ve come in the past 10 years. To celebrate such a milestone is an amazing achievement. “We've grown, adapted and continuously strived to make a positive impact on the lives of the individuals we support. “This milestone is not just a celebration of our achievements, but a testament to the dedication of our staff, the resilience of those we serve and the strength of our community. Here's to many more years of empowering people to live the life they deserve."

Have you heard of a Mental Health First Aider? Mental Health First Aiders provide support and signpost someone experiencing poor mental health to the support available to them. They also play a vital role in reducing stigma and promoting positive mental health in the workplace and beyond. We have 12 Mental Health First Aiders here at Surrey Choices! Meet Jo, she's a Learning and Development Partner and Mental Health First Aider with Surrey Choices. Jo was one of the first seven people in the country to complete the Level 3 qualification in suicide reduction. She's also a foster carer, baker (she cheered everyone in the community up during COVID with her amazing bakes!) and also supports young people with mental health issues. Jo is fantastic at recognising when people may not be feeling themselves and makes it her mission to check in and see how they are. #MentalHealthFirstAider #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalWellbeing #WorkplaceWellbeing #EmployeeSupport #MentalHealthSupport #WellbeingChampion #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthFirstAid

Earlier this month, we had the incredible opportunity to enjoy a career exploration event at London Gatwick. The day was filled with inspiration, insights, and a glimpse into the exciting world of aviation. A diverse group of speakers, many with disabilities themselves, shared their personal journeys and career successes within the airport. Their stories were truly powerful, demonstrating that with the right support and opportunities, individuals with disabilities can excel in any industry. Barry Cullen CMgr MCMI, the event organiser, shared, “Our staff and partners really enjoyed being involved and already other partners here have asked to be involved in future events, which is really encouraging.” One attendee, Zac, expressed his enthusiasm: “My time at Gatwick was beyond my expectations as I haven’t been in an airport before and it really took me by surprise. The whole airport staff is like one big family and community and everyone seemed to get along. I felt comfortable and can see myself working at Gatwick airport.” Beyond the inspiring talks, attendees had the chance to explore the airport and even experience a ride in an electric assistance vehicle. It was a day filled with discovery and possibilities. We’re incredibly grateful to Barry Cullen and the entire Gatwick Airport team for hosting such a memorable event. Helen Marshall, Senior Employment Support Specialist, said, “Everyone who attended has given great feedback and enjoyed the time at Gatwick and given some great insight on working at the airport.” "I would also like to thank everyone from Gatwick for their part in our big day. All of the presentations and hearing their work stories has really benefitted the people that we support to give them more confidence in applying for different roles and not feeling that they can't due to a disability." This event has shown us the incredible potential of individuals with disabilities and the importance of creating inclusive workplaces. We’re committed to continuing to break down barriers and open doors to fulfilling careers for all. #DisabilityInclusion #AviationCareers #Inspiration #DisabilityEmployment #AviationIndustry #CareerGoals #DisabilityAwareness #CareerInspiration #Aviation #DisabilityPride #AviationJobs
