Yesterday, we partnered with Tutors United to host a virtual volunteer event with Alyssa Hunter of Optiver, Dave Mishoe of Cabrera Capital Markets and Kirstie MacGillivray of Aegon Asset Management. They spoke with current university students about careers in finance and trading. The students asked some great questions about work-life balance, ideal degrees, and effective entry points into the industry. Earlier this year, Sustainable Trading's Viki Leibow examined the issue of low female representation in the trading industry. In June, we held a summer panel session and drinks event for our members, kindly hosted by Instinet Incorporated at their London office. The panel, moderated by Viki Leibow of Sustainable Trading, featured Asha Patel of Instinet, Frances Ritter of Vanguard, Michelle Rodrigues of Instinet and Simon Steward of Capital Group, and focused on the journey to improving diversity in the trading industry. Key topics of discussion included accessibility to entering the industry, retention of employees, and how we can encourage greater diversity through inclusive practices. Earlier this month, the annual Quorum 15 member event included a very interesting panel that discussed the importance of leveraging generational diversity in the workplace and talked about the phrase ‘Gentelligence’ - the focus of a book authored by Megan Gerhardt, Ph.D. It’s the first time in history that five generations are all in the workplace at the same time (the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z), and with that come cultural differences and challenges - particularly surrounding approaches to work-life balance, ways of working and the stereotypical assumptions that have been placed on each generation. Gentelligence is about understanding how to lead an intergenerational workforce, through exploring and understanding each others' frustrations and challenges, to bring out the best of every generation and truly make change stick. We were delighted to be joined by Kaushik Ramakrishnan, Patricia Dillon, and Emmanuel Nwodo of the Global Electronics Council on Tuesday, as they led a discussion on ecolabels as a tool for sustainable and circular ICT procurement in another of our Sustainable Trading Speaker Series! The team from the GEC highlighted the environmental and supply chain impacts of ICT procurement, discussed the sustainability criteria used for their EPEAT ecolabel, and then shared how companies could drive impact through the implementation of sustainable ICT procurement.
