Ultra processed foods (UPFs) might be a hot topic in the industry but it's also filtering through to consumers and impacting how they think and behave in store. 🍔 3 in 5 are aware of UPFs but when we prompt for a definition things get a little murky 🍔 The most consistent definition with consumers focuses on unnatural products, high in artificial additives, featuring a long list of ingredients but with low nutritional value 🍔 Some brands more than others are seen to be Ultra processed - Super Noodles and Rustlers are obvious examples but brands like Walkers and Heinz feature too 🍔 There is some evidence that UPFs are being considered when in store making decisions 🍔 A concern is that the lack of clarity or definition on UPFs leads to misinformation and brands being unfairly impacted by the label if not carefully managed More from our survey, later this week
