We are delighted to announce the promotion of Kevin Walker to Group Asset Director and his appointment to the Switch Management board. With over 14 years’ experience in maintenance and facilities management, Kevin joined Switch in 2021 as Regional Maintenance Manager and later progressed to the role of Group Property Asset Manager. In his new role, Kevin will have responsibility for maintenance teams across the business, ensuring that all properties within the Switch portfolio are well-maintained, safe and compliant. One of Kevin’s key focuses will be driving forward the Switch Housing division, which recently launched a new programme to source safe and secure residential accommodation for vulnerable families across the UK. Through our Switch Housing division, we recently supported a London Borough facing significant challenges in its temporary accommodation provision. 250 families had been allocated rooms in various budget hotels across the borough, but fluctuating nightly rates provided little to no cost certainty. Due to the nature of the hotels, guests had limited facilities. Families were moved to a different location every four weeks, with the local authority employing a team to manage the monthly changeovers. Switch agreed a 12-month contract with the local authority to source and manage a longer-term accommodation solution for vulnerable families. - Families were relocated to three hotels with fixed rates, using our central booking system. -  Each property included shared kitchens, lounges, laundry facilities, room fridges, and weekly cleaning services. Switch Housing recently worked with Lumensol Ltd to conduct a customer data collection project on behalf of a London Council. The aim of the project was to collect personal data for 2,500 households living in Temporary Accommodation and provide the council with an up-to-date status for all residents being housed in private rental properties. Five team members from Switch Housing conducted the data collection calls over a period of six weeks. The project was completed in September 2024 and provided valuable insights. Key findings included: ·      5% of households (50 properties) were unoccupied, meaning an end of duty for the council. This presents a potential saving of £1m each year in incentive and rental fees. ·      13% of households had a change in occupancy number, with 5% being under occupied - presenting a potential council saving of £500,000 per year. ·      14% of households said they would move out of London if alternative accommodation could be sourced. This highlights the importance of engaging with landlords in wider areas across the UK, to help meet affordable housing needs and relieve pressure on in-demand boroughs.
