With the tax changes in the Autumn Budget, tax efficient investment schemes like EIS just became even more useful for investors looking to reduce their tax liability. EIS offers tax reliefs around capital gains tax and inheritance tax as well as income tax relief and loss relief. Some of the changes to taxes included: 🔹 Capital gains tax increase from 10% to 18% for those paying the lower rate, and 20% to 24% for those paying the higher rate: effective immediately. 🔹 Inherited pension pots subject to inheritance tax (IHT): from April 2027 🔹 From April 2026, only the first £1 million of agricultural property and business property will provide 100% relief from IHT. VCTs have seen a surge in investment, but there are other tax efficient products that offer a broader range of capital gains tax reliefs. With tax increases all but guaranteed in the incoming Budget, investors are rushing to tax efficient products that offer capital gains tax relief in particular, as this is the tax considered most likely to increase. Venture capital trusts (VCT) have seen a surge in investment, but the capital gains tax relief offered by VCTs is fairly limited compared to other products. In this article, we go through the relative benefits of VCTs when compared to EIS - the Enterprise Investment Scheme - which offers capital gains tax relief on disposal, but also options to defer capital gains and a suite of reliefs on other taxes. https://lnkd.in/e7UpQ8BZ
