🚧 Reflections on Highways UK 2024 🚧 Last week, our team had the pleasure of attending Highways UK 2024 and it was a full of engaging talks and valuable perspectives! The event brought together the leading minds in the highways and road infrastructure sector to discuss how we can future-proof our transport networks for a greener, more resilient future. 🌍🚗 Agnieszka Kowalska (prev Lopez-Parodi) came back with a standout message from Michèle Dix of the National Infrastructure Commission, who shared her vision for the future of highways: ‘Clean – Green – Lean.’ However, significant challenges lie ahead, especially around climate change resilience and decarbonisation. Full collaboration and innovation across government, businesses, and local authorities will be key to achieving these goals. Some key takeaways from Tomas Williams: ✅ With many roads and structures nearing the end of their usable life, collaboration is more crucial than ever to ensure our transport network is maintained. ✅ This collaboration opens doors to incorporate nature-based solutions, less carbon intense practices. Another fascinating insight came from Prof. (Dr) Anusha Shah, President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), during a panel discussion. She introduced a compelling concept of how to potentially further engrain environmental sustainability into UK Highways beyond the current focus of BNG and Nature-based solutions. The concept that environmental sustainability should be the starting point in contracts for UK Highways. 🌿 While initiatives like Biodiversity Net Gain and nature-based solutions are making strides, Anusha emphasized that to truly achieve net zero and meet sustainability goals, the environment must be at the forefront of every decision and integrated fully into the fabric of contract development. This forward-thinking approach could reshape how we think about infrastructure, putting sustainability front and centre in the road to a greener future. It was an inspiring event, and we’re looking forward to applying these insights to help create a smarter, greener, and more sustainable transport network. #HighwaysUK #Sustainability #Collaboration #Innovation #TACP #RoadsOfTheFuture #Infrastructure #NationalHighways #BNG

🎉 Celebrating Success: Achieving IEMA Associate Membership We’re delighted to share the news that William Griffiths and Matthew Williams have successfully passed their Associate IEMA exam and are proud Associate Members of IEMA!🌿 They join other members of our team who are at various IEMA membership levels, all committed to driving sustainable practices and continuing to innovatively deliver environmental management and assessment across our projects. Becoming an IEMA Associate Member brings fantastic benefits, such as access to a wealth of resources, opportunities for professional development, and a recognised mark of expertise in environmental management and assessment. It’s all about staying ahead in a rapidly evolving field, connecting with a network of fellow sustainability experts, and driving impactful change. 🌍 Will has shared some insights from attending the course: “Over the 5-day course, some of the contents that were covered included, environmental principles, principles of sustainable organisations, pollution control, policy and legislation, environmental tools and assessment, environmental management systems and auditing, data and reporting, and sustainability performance. We discussed these areas in detail and carried out different tasks in groups. The course provided a great way to get a foothold and demonstrate competence in this kind of work. This has helped me improve professionally, and I have gained knowledge to bring back to TACP (UK) Ltd. IEMA Associate Membership will help me going forward by providing support that will benefit me in many ways. The comprehensive and practical approaches to environmental management and assessment that I’ve learned have equipped me with knowledge and tools to make a positive impact in my field for TACP and its clients.” A big congratulations to both! 🙌 #IEMA #Sustainability #ProfessionalDevelopment #TACP #Congratulations #EnvironmentalManagement #teamdevelopment

🚧 TACP has featured in Esri UK’s ThinkGIS Magazine! 🌍 We’re delighted to share that TACP has been featured in the latest issue of Esri UK’s ThinkGIS magazine, highlighting our role in the A465 ‘Heads of the Valleys’ road project – a key infrastructure development connecting South Wales to the Midlands. As part of this major construction project, we’ve been using ArcGIS to support FCC Construcción by overseeing the delivery of the landscape design and monitoring vital ecological assets such as ancient woodlands, bat roosts, and butterfly habitats. Our innovative use of ArcGIS mobile apps and Survey123 has allowed us to manage environmental permits to work in real-time, ensuring environmental control and compliance. This collaborative effort – integrated into the A465 project portal – presents over 2,000 layers of data, including drone imagery, BIM models, and landscape plans, all shared across nine partner organizations. Our contribution helps minimize environmental impacts while creating and enhancing natural habitats, showcasing the power of ArcGIS in delivering complex environmental solutions on large-scale projects. Read the full article extracted from the magazine below to learn more about how we’re leveraging GIS technology to make a sustainable impact. 🌿 Enhancing Our Expertise: Heathland, Acid Grassland, and Bog Habitat Survey Training 🌾 Some of our team is excited to have participated in the Heathland, Acid Grassland, and Bog - Species Identification and Habitat Assessment with Domonic Price! This course was packed with opportunities to: ✅ Gain confidence in identifying key grasses and flowers across different heathland communities ✅ Learn key features for UKHAB surveys and BNG condition assessments ✅ Practice quadrat sampling and share ideas with fellow attendees Heathlands are home to a rich variety of plant communities, from dry acid grassland to bogs and wet heath. With many species at their peak in late summer and autumn, the course focused on practical methods for identifying everything from grasses and sedges to some of the rarer, more spectacular species. The hands-on experience with quadrat sampling also gave our team the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and sharpen their habitat survey techniques. 🌱 Here’s what Ben Newham had to say about the experience: "The training day was really helpful and insightful! The entire course took place outdoors, which was fantastic - especially since we were in the New Forest, known for having some of the best heathland in northern Europe. It was a great opportunity to improve my plant identification skills for a variety of grasses and sedges, and I even saw carnivorous sundews for the first time! We also gained valuable practice with UKHab surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) condition assessments, the latter being new to me. After the course, I feel much more confident conducting future Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and condition assessments in general, particularly in heathlands, grasslands, or bogs.” A big thanks to the Species Recovery Trust for such an enriching and practical course. Looks like it ended with a tasty ice cream stop for the team on their way back too! 🍦 #HabitatSurvey #SpeciesID #BNG #EnvironmentalAssessment #ProfessionalDevelopment #TACP
