Planting schemes at RHS Garden Hyde Hall looking magnificent. I love the way that these borders have been designed for successional interest - when one plant has finished 'doing its thing' another one springs into action. Of course this doesn't only benefit human eyes - it's a great way of ensuring a continuous supply of pollen and nectar for beneficial insects. Royal Horticultural Society

So proud that our Railway Garden in Great Bentley has been shortlisted for two, yes TWO! APL Awards. This particular garden is very special to us. Our lovely clients have been a dream to work with from day 1, and continue to keep in touch with us. It's great when the client makes you feel appreciated. Take a look at the case study for this garden on our website. https://lnkd.in/gTRwAxxP

Our Billericay garden design brilliantly brought to life by Holland Landscapes As you can see, the lawns and planting are a work in progress but the hard landscaping is an absolute triumph. This garden slopes away from the house and has several changes of level. It is adjacent to farmland where naturally occuring springs and clay soil mean that parts of the plot are wet underfoot for much of the year. Our client asked for a natural, rustic looking garden where wildlife can be welcomed in. She particularly wanted the garden to be accessible in bare feet at any time of year. Shade was a must, as was a circular patio towards the end of the garden where our client can practice yoga whilst immersed in nature. Filled gabions offer up wonderful textures and the bespoke made timber pergola feels strong and natural. Have you spotted that it has a #greenroof? To keep the rustic look and feel, we've used Millboard composite decking. This will cope well with the damp conditions and not need chemical preservatives to keep it in good condition. The steps, seating areas and paths are all made from the same materials in order to have a joined-up design. Our client couldn't wait until the project was finished to send us this testimonial. I think she likes it! "We were introduced to Katie by Holland Landscapes when we were looking to have our boggy garden hard landscaped. Katie visited our sloping wet garden and asked all the right questions regarding our brief. We wanted to get to the end of the garden without having to always put a pair of wellies on as well as it being wheelchair friendly. Katie produced a beautiful design incorporating board walks, decking areas and a rain shelter along with suggestions for planting. We loved the design but due to the garden's severe slope we felt that we would lose too much lawn area so Katie kindly did a second design where retaining walls solved that. Being a designer myself I know how important it is to explore the design stage and to get the design spot on before starting the project." "Holland Landscapes are currently a few weeks away from completing our garden and we barely recognise it! We hardly went out in the garden during the wet seasons but already we are out there every day in slippers or shoes. Our new garden means we can entertain friends and family all year round now. Every aspect of the garden is just beautiful, we still can't quite believe how lucky we are."

When creating new gardens and landscapes, how can the designer ensure that their construction detailing and finish are aligned with a thoughtful, sensitive approach? How can landscapers help the design process achieve a lighter touch? At the SGD Spring Conference on 27th April 2024, Mark Gregory of Landform Consultants Ltd will explore the role of landscapers in the drive to produce gardens whose build has been considered and the design process enhanced by new techniques, shared knowledge and research. Mark will examine technologies, costs and issues faced when using both the new and the reclaimed materials which are currently being developed and brought to market. He will share hints and tips to be more confident when talking both to clients and the garden build teams and reflect on the lessons he has learned from recent schemes where a sustainable build was at the centre of the process and how it impacted on the overall success of the project. Join us at the SGD Spring Conference on 27th April 2024 to find out more about this approach. Have you futureproofed your garden? By that, I mean is it suitable for the next phase of your life? Will your toddler-friendly garden still appeal to your children when they reach primary school age and the teenage years? Does your forever home have a garden that you'll be able to enjoy throughout a busy retirement? What if you become less mobile as you age? Would that render your garden inaccessible? How about if you plan to sell your home in 10 years time and move on? Will the garden appeal to potential buyers? These are all things that Katie thinks about very carefully when designing gardens. She's not just thinking about what the garden will look like 6 months after completion, she's considering how it performs for the decades to come. Will it be manageable? enjoyable? safe? There's a blog on our website about retirement gardens - please take a look if you're considering a makeover for your own outdoor spaces. https://lnkd.in/ezwGt8BJ #retirement #futureproofing #gardendesign

Another lovely testimonial! Steve is building a tropical haven in Sudbury. He has a newbuild garden which is very well cared for and it's clear that Steve loves his plants! He wanted a design for his back garden which includes tiered staging and raised beds to show off his extensive collection of tropical plants. Steve wants to be able to walk through a serices of connected and separate raised beds of differing heights and sizes to maximise the interestin his outdoor space. The garden has got to look good from his patio doors. He also wanted a small pond with lots wildlife friendly planting. And a pergola so that he can enjoy his garden in all weathers. Katie's design meets the brief beautifully. Here's what Steve had to say about Tapestry Design Studios. "Working with Katie Moyes from Tapestry Designs was a delightful experience. The snowdrop is a favourite plant here at Tapestry Design Studios and it often appears in our planting plans, simply because it brings such joy. In the language of flowers, snowdrops are said to signify hope and new beginnings. Similar to what most people are looking for when they comission a garden design. 🤔 Have you spotted any snowdrops blooming in your garden yet? #plantingplans #languageofflowers #snowdrops

Your garden is a personal space, so it's important to work with the right garden designer. You need someone who will listen to your ideas, not try to force their own preferences on you. Someone who understands what you want to achieve and knows enough about landscaping techniques and building regulations to create a buildable design. And most importantly, your garden designer must be someone you can trust and get along with. Thank you, Paul and Liz, for your kind words. We absolutely loved designing your garden; seeing it brought to life by the talented team at Holland Landscapes has been pure joy. #gardendesign #gardeninspiration
