Following participation in IWCE earlier this month, our CEO Kevin Graham took the opportunity to visit TCCA member the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) PSCR Public Safety Immersive Test Center (PSITC). Located in the TCCA member First Responder Network Authority facility in Boulder, Colorado, the PSITC provides opportunities to conduct immersive public safety standards and measurements testing. Kevin had a comprehensive guided tour of the programs being undertaken, and a demonstration of the various quick deployable solutions developed with industry and currently in service across the USA. The world-leading work that NIST PSCR and FirstNet Authority teams are undertaking in support of first responders, and their willingness to share with our global community, is hugely appreciated.  Pictured during the visit: first picture, from left, FirstNet Authority Team: Kim Coleman Madsen, Mike V., TCCA CEO Kevin Graham, Jeff Bratcher and Barry Leitch. Our Board vice-chair and CCBG chair Tero Pesonen was invited to give a keynote presentation to an impressive audience at the the Swiss Police Informatics Congress (SPIK) Swiss Police ICT, a fixture in the Swiss ICT landscape. With approximately 800 participants from business, politics, and government agencies, it is the most well-known platform for exchange in the emergency services sector and takes place annually in Bern. Swiss Police ICT includes representatives from police forces, administration and the business community. Tero presented an overview of global developments in mission critical broadband, TCCA and our members' involvements, and specifics regarding the Swiss market. What is the future of the UHF 470-694 MHz frequency band better know as terrestial antenna TV-band within EU? European Commission's Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) organises an one-day workshop in Brussels at 11.04.2025. The RSPG subgroup focusing on the matter has circulated a questionnaire among EU member states and is now organising a workshop open to representatives of RSPG member countries and stakeholders. The workshop carries four sessions dedicated on present use of the UHF band; a look at what is happening in countries outside the EU; future use of the band; and “What if…” round table discussions. Stakeholders, regulators, associations and industry from different communities have been widely invited. UHF visionary experts such as Wolfgang Bilz from Shure, Ulrich Rehfuess from Nokia and Janne Holopainen from YLE plus others are sharing their views in the workshop. 3GPP SA plenary has started in Incheon, South-Korea with elections. Puneet Jain was elected to his 2nd term to continue as the chair. Tao Sun, Johannes Achter and LaeYoung Kim were elected as new vice chairs. At telecommunications conferences around the world, there is increasing visibility of and debates around cybersecurity – protecting the networks from digital attacks. Yet there should also be emphasis on the security of the physical infrastructure. A new white paper from TCCA’s Legal and Regulatory Working Group (LRWG) aims to focus the attention of critical communications providers on the importance of the issue – with the goal of catalysing the creation of a global standard for the physical security of infrastructure supporting critical communications. Our LRWG is chaired by Nina Myren, (pictured below), TCCA Board member representing Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap (DSB). The creation of the white paper was led by Lasantha De Alwis UK Home Office, Michael Rühlemann Bundesanstalt für den Digitalfunk (BDBOS), who is also LRWG vice chair, and Kari Junttila Suomen Erillisverkot -konserni. Thanks to all British APCO for inviting us to the BAPCO Annual Event which concluded yesterday. A terrific two days as always! As TCCA-Critical Communications is celebrating its 30th birthday, our chairman Mladen Vratonjic chaired a panel discussion looking at the work of TCCA and our members, the critical importance of standards, interoperability and certification - and a look forward at 6G and how we want it to serve critical communications users. Mladen was joined by our former CEO Tony Gray, Robin Davis, and current Board members Steve Barber Sepura, Cate Walton UK Home Office and Jason Johur Ericsson. The picture on the slide is of the founding fathers of the TETRA MoU, as we were then. Can you name them? Looking to the future, Robin Davis Actica Consulting, chair of our Future Technologies Group, moderated a discussion on what's coming over the horizon - there were many mentions of AI and its various uses, and also pertinent comments about concept products that never make it to market. Robin was joined by Stephen Russell, Jason Somerville, Gillian Fyfe, Wayne Parkes and Heidi Clevett. And what is a birthday without cake - seen here with our Association Manager Rachael Scott Echo Events & Association Management, and Mladen on the joint TCCA Critical Communications World-TCCA-Critical Communications stand.
