Our researchers are leading the UK’s drive to develop the UK's first 'near-unhackable' quantum internet. As part of a £160 million government investment, we'll be heading the Integrated Quantum Networks (IQN) Hub - one of five new quantum technology hubs aimed at keeping the UK at the forefront of this progressive field.   Led by Professor Gerald Buller, the main benefit of the IQN Hub will be enhanced cybersecurity. In an era where cybercrime costs the UK an estimated £27 billion annually, the quantum internet promises unprecedented levels of security.    Other huge benefits include connecting powerful future quantum computers, creating new opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, enabling accelerated drug discovery and personalised treatment plans.    Reflecting our significant capabilities in the emerging field of quantum, we’re pleased to play significant roles in three of the four other newly announced quantum hubs. These include hubs focused on quantum-enabled position, navigation and timing, quantum biomedical sensing, and quantum sensing, imaging and timing.   We’re looking forward to collaborating with over 40 non-academic partners and fellow universities in this endeavour. UofG researchers are playing leading roles in two of five new quantum technology hubs announced today. Science Secretary Peter Kyle announced the major funding for the hubs following a visit to our Advanced Research Centre. These hubs will help advance quantum tech in healthcare, computing, national security, and infrastructure.
