The Africa Centre

Non-profit Organizations

A home for contemporary African culture & heritage. Serving communities in the UK, Africa & the global African diaspora.

About us

The Africa Centre is a UK registered charity that has been dedicated to championing contemporary Africa and the achievements of its global diaspora – be it education, arts, entrepreneurship, innovation, and culture, for six decades. The Centre was established in 1964 to help connect and advocate for Africans in the UK and the wider diaspora. Originally located in Covent Garden, the charity recently moved into new headquarters in Southwark, London where it has quickly established itself as a home away from home for Africans in London and anyone who cares about the interests of Africa and its people. As it celebrates six decades of impact, the Centre is now moving into an exciting new era where it will be taking its place as a global powerhouse, driving the narrative on Africa and the African Diaspora through high-level advocacy, championing African excellence across all sectors, facilitating powerful and impactful cross-sectoral global partnerships and being a platform for showcasing the innovation and entrepreneurialism that will propel people of African descent through the rest of the 21st century. Over the past six decades, The Africa Centre has continued to reflect the changing needs of people of African descent in the UK and beyond; repositioning itself as a hub for several cultural and social organisations, as well as a major platform for artists from the world of music, theatre, and contemporary art. In 2024, The Africa Centre rightly looks back with pride, as it strides forward with purpose for all Global Africans to realise their potential in today’s world. Its mission today is to educate, connect, and advocate for Africa and its global diaspora.

🌍 What Kind of Ancestor Will You Be? 🌍 As we reflect on Black History Month, The Africa Centre is focused on genuine impact, not just performative gestures. We're proud to be working with partners on long-term solutions to uplift the Black community—tackling underemployment, mental health, and more. This BHM, we also honor the unsung heroes who’ve built the Centre from the ground up, like Margaret Kosoni, our first secretary in 1964. We're launching a new fundraising campaign soon! Help us continue our mission and build a lasting legacy. 🔗 On this months CEO Blog: https://lnkd.in/dgc284-q
