Last year, the Air League launched the UK’s first Electric Flying Scholarships: and the programme has just reopened to new applications for summer 2025! If you’ve got an interest in a career in aviation, sustainability, electrically powered aircraft, low emissions aircraft and climate science, apply for 5 hours training on the Pipistrel Velis Electro today.⚡🌍 The Pipistrel Velis Electro is the world’s first type certified fully electric aircraft. Producing zero emissions during operation, the two-seater aircraft is intended primarily for pilot training. With a maximum cruise speed of 98 kcas, maximum altitude of 12,000ft and a maximum range of 50 minutes, the Velis Electro is the perfect electric training aircraft. ✈️ All hours flown on the aircraft will be counted towards the student’s total PPL training time, contributing to progression and development. Scholarships will tale place with the Air League’s approved training partner, SAXONAIR CHARTER LIMITED, at Norwich Airport. Recently, the fuselage was attached to its gear, and students are now working on the wiring loom.✈️ Project Slingshot is our aircraft build project which gives young people practical, hands-on experience in aviation manufacture and flight. Assembled across two sites in the Midlands; Aston University Engineering Academy and the Manufacturing Technology Centre Coventry, the aircraft build is funded by the Department for Transport and Boeing. The initiative supports groups of young people to deliver a complete aircraft and to develop practical skills in engineering, project management and teamwork. The completed Project Slingshot aircraft will deliver a legacy beyond the initial build programme, with each completed aircraft planned to deliver many years of flying for cadets, other youth groups and Air League scholars.
