Commenting on today’s hearing on debanking by the US Senate Banking Committee, AIMA CEO Jack Inglis said: The hearing follows AIMA's recent calls for action on banking challenges faced by the crypto industry and the publication of some of the first data illustrating the scale of the problem faced by crypto hedge fund managers. AIMA research found that in a survey of 160 crypto hedge funds, 75% reported issues with accessing or growing banking services for their funds. At the same time, none of the traditional alternative investment managers surveyed have lost or been denied banking services for their funds or management companies. AIMA research into crypto debanking can be found in the comments below.

AIMA’s US digital asset custody concerns are back on the agenda! As the leading representative of the crypto asset hedge fund industry, AIMA’s Digital Assets Working Group (DAWG), has long been advocating for greater clarity on the US regulatory framework for custody of crypto assets, among other issues. Therefore, AIMA welcomes SEC Commissioner Peirce’s latest statement (https://lnkd.in/eraMeFYA) highlighting custody solutions for investment advisers as a priority for the newly announced Crypto Task Force. AIMA’s response to the SEC’s Proposed Custody Rule in 2023 highlighted a number of concerns relating to crypto assets such as impractical custody requirements, reduced competition, restrictions on trading platforms, potential bans on staking and cybersecurity risks. We look forward to engaging with the SEC’s Crypto Task Force to create a sensible, clear ruleset for crypto assets. AIMA members: 🔹 will get the opportunity to hear directly from Commissioner Peirce at AIMA’s Global Policy & Regulatory Forum in New York on March 11. https://lnkd.in/ef7dV5Xc 🔹 can see the full list of shortcomings we identified with the SEC’s Proposed Custody Rule. https://lnkd.in/e7q5mmvZ 🔹 have access to AIMA’s Guide on Digital Asset Custody, providing key considerations around due diligence for alternative asset managers determining how to custody their crypto assets. https://lnkd.in/eisRfT5K #crypto #sec #hedgefunds #alternativeinvestments #digitalassets
