Celebrating excellence in art and practice. Professional photographers for the creative industries.
About us
Protect - Promote - Inspire The Association of Photographers was first formed in 1968 as the Association of Fashion and Advertising Photographers and is one of the most prestigious professional photographers' associations in the world. The AOP's aims remain the same today as they were nearly 50 years ago: To promote and protect the worth and standing of its members, to vigorously defend, educate and lobby for the interests and rights of all photographers, especially in the commercial photographic industry. Membership is open to: Professional Photographers, Assistants, Agents and Students. Our members' clients include: advertising agencies, design groups, corporate sector companies, publishing houses and music publishers. Our members' work is: published worldwide in magazines, newspapers, books and advertising campaigns. Many members produce work as fine art, sold and collected through traditional galleries and online. The Association brings professional photographers together and provides a sense of community that is simply unavailable anywhere else. We promote the highest levels of achievement and we lobby for our members' interests at all levels.

Association of Photographers reposted this
Was Thursday 26th Sept 2024 a little window into what 2030 could look like to the photographic and creative industries? 12:00hrs Doors open for the Association of Photographers Sustainability Event hosted by Hat Margolies Carol Sharp and the rest of the Sustainability Working Group, which focussed on the benefits of businesses embedding sustainability into their working practises. 12:20hrs 🌱Kai Bastard introduced the AOP Sustainability Pledge which helps AOP members navigate a path towards low-carbon business models. 12:30hrs Ceri Jones shared the inspirational work Purpose Disruptors are doing around what a #GoodLife2030 looks like and how the Agency for Nature project sees nature as a client. Can the advertising industry be the solution to the challenges we face in addressing the climate & biodiversity issues we face? 13:30hrs MPB, Mariana Fabricante & Pat McEnallay talked about circularity, zero waste and low-energy lighting in production. 14:30hrs Emli Bendixen, Ben Gold & JC Candanedo shared open and honest stories about the challenges and successes of trying to be sustainable and how does a largely self-employed sector makes decisions about what work to take on. 15:30hrs Holly Arnold, Pamela Noakes & David Gray joined me on a panel about what clients are looking for when commissioning work. It was so cool to learn how important nature is to a brand like Finisterre and how integral it is to their creative strategy. A present day example of what the successful brands of 2030 will look like? 18:30hrs We headed over to the AOP Awards where Samuel Hicks won Silver in the Environment category for his fantastic project Wilding (see attached image), subsequently appearing in the national press the following day. With another very worthy finalist Paul Winter shortlisted for his brilliant film about PITFIELD BARN Flowers and Brighton pop-up farm shop The Sussex Peasant. But perhaps the biggest insight into how the future of our industry might look is how collaborative the day felt and how refreshing to have so many photographers, producers and production crew in the same room searching for solutions together: Big shouts to Duncan Nicholls Simon Hyde Shelly Waldman Sarah Cresswell Sara Hibbert Claire Haddleton Paul Winter Kate Abbey Julian Ward Alice Timms Liam Bergin ANDREW KEEP Bryony Harrison-Miller Charlotte Holt Fiona Watson Jason Baron Matt Wellham Robbie Greatrex Louise Greenaway Bronwen Foster-Butler and many more (apologies to those I missed). Thank you all for attending and making it the day it was. #sustainability #collaboration #photography #nature #advertising #production
