Designing the Designers of Beautiful Business.
About us
What will you do with your precious creativity? Does the work you do matter? Is it transformative? Regenerative? What would your work look like were it more beautiful? What world do you want to make? What will be your legacy? Welcome to The Beautiful Design Project: We exist to add more beauty to the world through the practice of business by “designing the designers” of a more beautiful and regenerative future. “All humans are designers. All that we do, almost all the time, is design, for design is basic to all human activity.” And, likewise, beauty is our nature. It is our true calling, our North Star, and the ultimate metric. Founded by Beautiful Business™ Designers Alan Moore and Tim Galles, our idea combines the concept of Beautiful Business™ and the ideas found in Alan’s breathtaking books, Do Design and Do Build with the concept of Whole Brand Thinking™ and the ideas brought to life in Tim’s book, Scratch: how to build a potent modern brand from the inside out. World makers wanted. We offer workshops, programs and a rigorous certification akin to a “B Corp for Individuals,” those starving to bring beauty into this world, who refuse to give in to mediocrity, ugliness and the status quo. Our Project invests in world makers, troublemakers and optimists, courageous souls looking to take a turn in their careers, their businesses, their ideas and their future. The Beautiful Business Methodology™ is structured in three parts: The Reset, which gives our participants a powerful new lens to see the world. The Doing, which provides the methodologies, skills, tools and artifacts to build a beautiful business, from the inside out. The Regenerating, which provides an ongoing community of support, learning, mentorship and development. One beautiful human at a time. Ours is a marriage of minds and methods that can change the world, one person, one team, one workshop, one program, one certification at a time. Join us.

Beautiful Business Designer: Max De Pree Max De Pree was the CEO of Herman Miller, known as one of the world’s most innovative, enlightened and compassionate organizations. He published eloquent and moving analyses of the qualities of leadership that carried his influence far beyond his own company, inspiring many businesses and leaders. Once when a financial analyst asked him what problems faced Herman Miller and its leaders, De Pree replied, “the interception of entropy.” He saw corporate deterioration as a constant threat, signaled by “a dark tension among key people,” “manuals,” “leaders who rely on structure instead of people,” “a loss of grace and style and civility,” and “a loss of respect for the English language.” When asked what distinguished Du Pree in his life, many people that worked with him and knew him would say: "HE WAS WHO HE WAS WHEREVER HE WAS." This beautiful phrase hit us hard. What a measure of a person, to be whole wherever they go, and what a challenge in today’s world. We believe in a work + life blend, not a balance. Work that matters does not have distinct borders from the rest of your life, and vice-versa. It is, at best, a blend, an essence of you in all aspects of your life. The goal is to be whole, the same person wherever you go, taking your beliefs and behaviors everywhere, to work, to relationships, to your community, to your health, to the planet. If you know other people who live this way, please share (or tag them in comments). Watching, learning and being mentored by these folks is the foundation for the change we need. If you’d like to reimagine the beautiful work of your future and be "who you are wherever you are," please join us: https://lnkd.in/gzRVN_YY Beauty is the ultimate metric. #BeautifulBusinessDesigner #BeautifulBusiness #Design #Mattering #Purpose #WholePerson

Now that we can do anything, what will we do? In response to slippery slopes, momentum and progress, we often advise to stop long enough to ask three questions: To what end? Should we? Is it truthful? As a master of technology and storytelling, “Steven Spielberg still loves celluloid, the feel of 35mm as opposed to digital filmmaking, but he has had to adapt and make the best of it. "I've learned that we can do just about anything under the sun with computers, “so the question becomes, should we? Or, should we remind ourselves, as filmmakers, to be careful and remember that there is nothing more important than how a story is told? If storytelling becomes a byproduct of the digital revolution, then the medium itself is corrupted. Digital photography is a science and film photography is a chemical miracle. And when I say chemical miracle, it is – you never quite know what you're gonna get after the film takes a bath, and exposes the positive from the negative. And when you get to see the print, based on your negative, there's a lot of things that surprises me. It always looks different, always looks real. There's grain, number one, and the grain is always moving, it's swimming. Which means that even in a still life, of let's say a flower on a table, that flower is alive even though it's not moving – because the film itself, the image is alive. And that's the difference. It’s so cool.” We agree, yes, it’s so cool. Beautiful Business Designers believe in craft and question how they will use their sacred creative energy. How will you use your sacred creative energy? #Craft #BeautifulBusinessDesigner #Design Image: Danny Lyon, Stephanie, Sandoval County, New Mexico, 1970

Beautiful Business Designers™️: Massive Attack’s Daddy G and 3D. The band are experimenting with a model they hope will change the music industry. “All the food will be vegan. All the loos will be compostable. If they're really observant, people might spot (electric) vans containing large batteries occasionally recharging other large batteries around the site, instead of having diesel generators to power the stage and stalls. Perhaps the biggest difference will not be in the show but outside. There's no car park. Instead, the 34,000 attendees are strongly encouraged to walk, cycle or get public transport - including on one of five special trains laid on to take people back across the south-west at the end of the bank holiday Sunday night. Massive Attack say the one-day show will be the lowest-carbon concert of its scale ever held, and want it to provide a template for the rest of the live music industry to follow.” To accelerate your journey to becoming a Beautiful Business Designer or to help others on their path, we invite you to join us here: https://lnkd.in/gy9JtUES #BeautifulBusiness #Design #Regeneration

Our Co-Founder Tim Galles shares his thoughts on our favorite subject, Beautiful Business Design. Have a listen.
🎙️ LISTEN NOW: The Future of Impact Work Podcast, Ep 3 - How to Build a Beautiful Business, with Tim Galles 🎙️ Tim Galles is a multi-award winning creative and strategic powerhouse who has spent his career working with clients like Microsoft, GM, The Nature Conservancy, Amazon, HSBC, Reebok, Target, Anheuser-Busch, Nestlé, Kimberly-Clark, Danone and many more. He co-founded The Beautiful Design Project: along with Alan Moore. It’s platform that offers workshops, programs and a rigorous certification "akin to a ‘B Corp for Individuals’, for those world makers, troublemakers, optimists and courageous souls looking to take a turn in their careers, their businesses, their ideas and their future.” Tim also authored ‘Scratch: how to build a potent modern brand from the inside out’. In this conversation we dig into how the dominant structures of work have resulted in people working like machines - but by empowering people to reset and reassess their ways of thinking, they can unlock the real creative solutions and find joy in their work, no matter what role they’re in. This is a great listen for anyone looking to evolve their sustainability work and start to think differently about the problems they’re trying to solve. As much as we love Buckminster Fuller, we have to politely say, yes and no. “When we experience the Beautiful, there is a sense of homecoming. Some of our most wonderful memories are of beautiful places where we felt immediately at home. We feel most alive in the presence of the Beautiful for it meets the needs of our soul. For a while the strains of struggle and endurance are relieved, our frailty is illuminated by a different light in which we come to glimpse behind the shudder of appearances the sure form of things. In the experience of beauty, we awaken and surrender in the same act.” – John O’Donohue Beauty is in our nature. We know it. We seek it out. It is ancient, primal. A “new” model is to break with the existing paradigm of growth at all costs, capitalism without constraints. This is not about small steps or linear thinking, tweaks and nudges. It’s a shift, a reset, a radical leap. Dare to bring beauty to your work; build a new model while finding your way home to your true nature. If you’d like to accelerate the future of your work and mattering and help create a world with more Beautiful Businesses, please join us. https://lnkd.in/gzRVN_YY Beauty is the ultimate metric. #BeautifulBusiness #Regeneration #Design #Mattering Image: Ricard Avedon

What can I do the most beautifully? What a question. The brilliant author, George Saunders, originally wanted to be a songwriter. So why did he choose writing? In his words: “The big principle I believe in is that, let’s say there’s twenty things that you do in your life—just general categories of things that you do. We might think we want to be “Thing Six.” But if we’re doing twenty things, and Thing Eighteen is the one that really lights us up, it’s a real moment of maturation to say, “My time here is short—what can I do the most beautifully? I think that’s a lesson in prose, but also in life. If you think you’re a com- poser of string quartets, and when you play your string quartets, everybody goes to sleep, and in consolation you pick up your accordion and start playing a polka and everybody dances. Well, there you go. There it is.” So what is that thing that you can do most beautifully? Have you discovered it? Are you doing it? For those that want to accelerate the beautiful work of their future, we have created The Beautiful Design Project, and we invite you to join us. https://lnkd.in/gzRVN_YY #BeautifulBusiness #Design #Mattering #Regeneration
