During #RememberACharityWeek, It seems fitting that we highlight the amazing legacy of one of our supporters, Dr Alison Brind, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Alison was a passionate and committed Hepatologist, who dedicated her life to the liver. She was a very generous personal donor to the charity and cared deeply that all liver patients could get the treatment they needed. After generously funding our Love Your Live roadshow to visit Stoke in 2023 (where she lived and worked) and seeing the success it had, Alison informed us that she would like to fund the roadshow in Stoke for another 5 years. This June was the first time we had been back to Stoke since her passing and it was a visit we are sure she would have been very proud of: https://ow.ly/ZanY50Tn4kx

Liver disease often has no symptoms in the early stages, so finding out if you could be at risk is really important. Our free online screener only takes a few minutes, and could be the most important thing you do today. Take the screener: https://lnkd.in/dYxNQ2Yr Please share so that more people have the opportunity to check if they are at risk.

If you are an adult with a diagnosis of cirrhosis, and are being treated in one of the hospitals marked on the map below, you may be interested in the OPAL study. The study will collect data from routine hospital visits, medical records, and blood tests to help doctors and scientists understand how to better care for people with advanced cirrhosis. Today marks the start of Remember a Charity Week, a time when we encourage everyone to take a moment to think about the legacy they want to leave. Many of our incredible supporters have included a gift to the British Liver Trust in their Will, and we are so grateful to all who chose to remember us in this special way, meaning they will be making a lasting impact– for years beyond their years. The #InequalitiesInHealthAlliance welcomes Andrew Gwynne MP into his role as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health and Prevention and the government’s commitment to halve the 20-year gap in healthy life expectancy and reduce demand on the NHS. We hope that the government will shortly set out more detail on the health mission delivery board scope and structure: https://lnkd.in/epeb-Rpt #EverythingAffectsHealth

INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITY – Liver Cancer event, London, 9th November. Are you someone with lived experience of HCC/liver cancer who would be willing to speak at a Cancer Summit in central London on Saturday 9th November? This will take place during the morning and the British Liver Trust will provide support and a full briefing beforehand and you will then have a practice run through. You will be asked to share your experience of navigating your way through the HCC/liver cancer pathway. The format will be a nurse interviewing you asking questions about your experience. They are expecting an audience of about 80 – 100 clinicians. You would be paid for your travel and other expenses, and for your time. If this sounds like something you could do or you would like to find out more, please email: outreach@britishlivertrust.org.uk
