Stuart Hale, UK General Manager at Brother Sewing Machines Europe GmbH , recently took on The Nullarbor Trial to raise funds for The Christie Charity. 👏 The Nullarbor Plain is a vast area of flat, almost treeless, arid country in southern Australia and can be challenging to cross. The former Christie patient completed the epic 4,885km ride from Melbourne to Perth by motorbike over 10 days. 🦘 🏍️ Stuart said “It was a fantastic journey, the longest ride I’ve ever done by far. It was challenging at times, especially spending eight hours at a time in the saddle in what is mostly very harsh terrain. But there were so many highlights along the way such as riding into Ferguson Valley with its Beautiful rolling hills and green pastures.” Stuart was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and underwent surgery at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to remove his cancer, he took on the challenge to raise awareness and fundraise for patients. Describing his cancer journey, Stuart said "Looking back over the year leading up to my diagnoses, the symptoms were so evident, but I believed them to be something that one gets as you enter your fifties - nothing to worry about. When I was told I had cancer, it was a real shock and took a while to sink in, but I was determined not to let the experience shape me. “I had surgery at The Christie to remove the cancer and now I’m well on the road to recovery. I’m so grateful for the treatment I received, the staff were absolutely amazing and I knew I wanted to give something back. “I’m happy to now be in a position where I can help other patients by fundraising, I’ve raised over £6,000 for The Christie and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported.” Feeling inspired?
