One of the team's favourite projects of 2024 - the residential conversion of the Grade II* listed 18-19 Colliergate, York - has been featured in The Council for British Archaeology's publication, British Archaeology! As part of the heritage-led design process, we engaged with the National Amenity Societies on early iterations of the scheme, including the CBA, and their ongoing advice helped to shape the final proposals. Author of the article, Jamie Corless, wrote: 'This project exemplifies the importance of utilising a conservation-led methodology and engaging with heritage specialists early in the planning process. By doing so, the applicant not only successfully navigated the complexities of working with a Grade II* listed building, but did so proactively and efficiently, avoiding the need for costly back-and-forth revisions and re-consultations.' We couldn't agree more! 👆 #heritage #heritageconsultant #planning #planningconsent #planningpermission #historicbuilding #historicbuildingsuk #property #propertydevelopment #listedbuilding #listedbuildings #listedbuildingsuk #listedbuildingconsent #archaeology #history #archaeologist #conservation #conservationarea #conservationareas #york #yorkshire #northyorkshire #victorianarchitecture #georgianarchitecture #outreach #publicoutreach #publicengagement #history

The CBA’s joint response with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists to the Environmental Audit Committee’s inquiry on Environmental Sustainability and Housing Growth has been published online🏛️ Our evidence emphasises the importance of historic buildings in sustainable development, advocating for policies that promote heritage while addressing modern environmental challenges. Key points include: ✔️ Encouraging the reuse of standing buildings to preserve embodied carbon and community identity. ✔️ Addressing the economic barriers to retrofitting and adaptive reuse of historic structures. ✔️ Supporting well-resourced local planning authorities to deliver quality, sustainable development.
