A survey conducted by Microsoft of nearly 1,500 UK senior leaders and 1,440 employees across public and private sectors, found that more than half of executives feel their organisation has no official AI plan. Roughly the same proportion report a growing gap in productivity between employees who use AI and those who do not.

This month, the theme in The Data Lab Community is Ethics! To kick things off, we hosted our monthly Data & AI Meetup at Bayes Centre and were grateful to be joined by Leonardo Bezerra, from the Participatory Harm Auditing Workbenches and Methodologies (PHAWM), and Wiktoria Kulik CIPP/e CIPT, Responsible AI Manager at Accenture. Leonardo’s talk focused on the importance of participatory harm auditing, particularly in light of the recently approved EU AI Act, whilst Wiktoria discussed the evolving landscape of AI ethics and governance. We're super excited for this one! Coming up later this month we'll be discussing AI ethics and compliance with Michaela D'Mello, Data Specialist at the LEGO Group! 🧱 The aim of this session is to link current regulation discussions to data ethics concerns, and highlight the relevance of data ethics and regulation to all of us, not just those that work in ethics or compliance. Whether you have ‘ethics’ in your job title or not, you can still play your part in ensuring data and AI technologies are built and implemented responsibly. Join us for insights, real-world examples, and an interactive Q&A. 📅 25 March 2025 12:30 - 13:30 GMT 📍 Online (Zoom Webinar) Register → https://lnkd.in/eNdi9REr #Ethics #Compliance #Data #AI The Data Lab - Innovation Centre

AI auditing is the practice of testing whether an AI system is working as it was intended. Currently this requires a level of expertise that most organisations do not have. Join us online as we discuss the role of participatory AI-auditing and why it's important to have non-AI experts involved in the process. During the session team at the Participatory Harm Auditing Workbenches and Methodologies (PHAWM) project will share their insights from ongoing work to co-create tools to audit the harms and fairness of AI. Speakers: • Dr Mark Wong – Senior Lecturer and Joint Head of Social and Urban Policy, the University of Glasgow • Cari Hyde-Vaamonde – Lawyer and Researcher, King's College London • Dr. Patrizia Di Campli San Vito - Postdoctoral Research Associate, the University of Glasgow 📅 21 March 2025 12:30 - 13:30 GMT 📍 Online (Zoom) Register → https://lnkd.in/eVuKCdeg
