🌟 Exciting opportunity for the fusion industry to hire summer interns 🌟 Over the past three years, UK Atomic Energy Authority's Fusion Industry Programme has partnered with organisations in the fusion sector to offer 8-week summer placements to UK-based undergraduate students. This has resulted in 83 students participating in placements at 20 host organisations around the UK - some of those students have gone on to receive offers of employment on graduation. 🎓 The FOSTER programme is looking to build on this success, and increase the talent pipeline into the industry. The Scheme is offered to UK-based university undergraduates (those graduating after the September of the placement year) to work with members of the fusion industry for 8-weeks over the summer (June-August). The placements will range from traditional STEM projects to key support function projects such as commercial, finance, project management, policy and strategy. In 2025, the scheme will provide students who have accepted placement at a host organisation, a subsistence payment of £3,900. The 2025 Summer Internship Programme Host organisations can submit project outlines for consideration via the Microsoft Form below - hosts can submit this form more than once if they have multiple projects for consideration. The form also allows the host to identify the number of students they would be willing to support per project. The projects should be related to the fusion industry, or have a significant interest in fusion. Projects accepted onto the scheme will be advertised on the UKAEA Careers website. The Host organisations are then responsible for recruiting the students via their own recruitment process. 📅 The closing date for host applications is 18 December 2024 so that internships can be advertised to students from 6 January 2025 Let’s work together to shape the future of the fusion industry! ⚛️ https://lnkd.in/ezzQSrXA #FusionIndustry #InternshipOpportunity #FOSTERProgramme #UKAEA #FutureTalent #STEM

A final chance to get up close to Tokamak Energy’s majestic fusion magnet system for filming before it is wrapped in steel and put through its paces 🧲 ⚡️ Demo4 is the next big step on our pathway to #fusionenergy. It will test the interaction and behaviour of our HTS technology in fusion power plant-relevant scenarios for the first time, informing spherical tokamak designs as we scale-up. It comprises 44 individual HTS coils assembled into 14 toroidal field limbs and two poloidal field coils, forming a cage-shaped ‘Chocolate Orange-like’ structure. The gaseous helium cooled system will operate in a vacuum at 20 Kelvin (-250°C) and will have a magnetic field strength of nearly a million times stronger than the Earth’s magnetic field. Magnetic confinement in tokamaks is the most researched and best understood path to fusion energy, which promises clean, near-limitless, safe, on-demand energy. Demo4 operations will start next year ✅ #HTSmagnets #energytransition

🎉 A landmark day for Marvel Fusion as we celebrate a major milestone — the groundbreaking of our state-of-the-art ATLAS* laser facility, developed in collaboration with Colorado State University (CSU), STRATA and Tetrad Real Estate. The opening ceremony featured inspiring remarks from Amy Parsons, President of CSU; Geri Richmond, Under Secretary for Science and Innovation at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE); Congressman Joe Neguse; Cassandra Moseley, VP of Research at CSU, Allen Robinson, Dean of the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering at CSU and Moritz von der Linden, CEO of Marvel Fusion. This moment highlights the transformative potential of public-private partnerships, where academia and industry unite to drive deep tech innovation. The ATLAS facility will play a pivotal role in advancing laser inertial confinement fusion (ICF) technology, bringing us closer to groundbreaking clean energy solutions that have the potential to reshape the global energy landscape. We’re also proud of the international collaboration behind this project, combining the expertise of global leaders in laser science and energy research. This project goes beyond cutting-edge technology; it’s about creating real-world benefits for both industry and society, accelerating the path towards commercially competitive fusion technology for a sustainable and energy-secure future. A huge thank you to our incredible team and partners for turning this vision into reality. The groundbreaking today is just the first step in an exciting journey ahead! 🌍🚀 #CleanEnergy #FusionEnergy #DeepTech #ATLASFacility #SustainableFuture #PublicPrivatePartnerships *The ATLAS Facility: Advanced Technology Lasers for Applications and Science

We had a fantastic time at New Scientist Live 2024! 14 members of the First Light team were in London last weekend, showcasing our work to over 50, 000 attendees at the annual conference. The lineup of talks, shows, and exhibits covered everything from science in history to conservation, agriculture, space, and of course, fusion. We loved sharing the excitement about fusion with the next generation and came away feeling inspired by all the enthusiasm in the room. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall! #NewScientistLive #FusionEnergy #TheFutureisFusion Mohamed Ben Sasi Francisco Suzuki-Vidal
