Congratulations to the winners of our Schools Geology Challenge 2025, Eltham College, and runners up Cirencester College, and Sheffield High School for Girls! At the final, 10 school teams from around the UK were tasked with preparing a mission proposal for launching a spacecraft to acquire strategically valuable materials from asteroids, helping to meet the demand for green technology in the year 2049. Competitors presented to the GEOLSOC Space Agency (GSLSA) who they needed to impress with their mission proposal as only one mission would be funded. Eltham College wowed the judges, showing great teamwork, strong creativity, keen analytical skills, and geoscience knowledge. The team took home the coveted SGC trophy and £500 to put towards geoscience education at their school. A massive thank you to our wonderful judges Marissa Lo, Leanne Hughes, and Mahesh Anand - without whom the day would have not been possible. It was wonderful to welcome pupils and their teachers from Greater Manchester to Burlington House for the Great Shout Out for Science initiative. The students spoke enthusiastically about their science education at school and it was great to hear how important it is to them. The Great Shout Out for Science is an enrichment activity which engages pupils aged 5-14 to write and share a letter which communicates why science is important to them in their lives now, in the future and for society in general. #GSSfS2025
