We're proud to offer the HMC Projects Scholarship Programme to give Central and Eastern European students like Vida Stanić the chance to study for two years in a British school. The programme nurtures excellent bonds of understanding and friendship between young people from across Europe. It helps European students develop their English skills, make new friends from different cultures, and to experience and appreciate the culture and traditions of the UK; and provides the children already attending school in the UK the opportunity to meet friends from countries they may not know well and to gain a deeper understanding of other countries’ traditions and culture. We hope you enjoyed your placement at Durham School Vida. Future HMC Scholars can find out more about the programme here: https://buff.ly/40BCs74 #HMCSchools #HMCLeadingIndependentSchools
98.4% chance to fail My proudest moment to date is that I (somehow) beat the odds I moved to the UK alone at the age of 17 for a full scholarship HMC (The Heads' Conference) offers young people from Central & Eastern Europe opportunities to finish A-levels in top UK independent schools for free 360 of us applied that year 6 of us got in 1.6% acceptance rate, conditioned on 6 stages of tests, motivational letters, and interviews For a scholarship worth £50k+ I remember meeting some people during the 4th stage and thinking, ‘Wow, they’re so much smarter than me’ (they were) One girl was a Serbian archery champion, another was enrolled in 2 high schools at the same time But I beat the odds I like and hate saying that I was 'lucky' In reality - I feel lucky, but luck had nothing to do with it 9 months later I joined Durham School, and this opened so many doors And it was of course a dream come true to live in a town where parts of Harry Potter were shot So, roughly 9-10 months ago, I sat down with Strahinja from Organizacija srpskih studenata u inostranstvu (OSSI) to chat about this Anyone interested in hearing more, drop me a message or comment below
