Webb is also in collaboration with the Obama Foundation to eliminate child marriage in Africa within 30 years. She advocates for free speech by challenging hate speech laws and promoting decriminalisation of defamation laws. Additionally, she highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change, as demonstrated by small island states' testimonies at COSIS and student-led campaigns that resulted in UN action. Her work underscored the power of law in achieving justice amidst a world in polycrisis. The speech by Allen & Overy explored Insolvent Sales, distinguishing between share and asset sales for a clean break. They highlighted concerns of sell-side directors and stakeholders, emphasising due diligence, director collaboration, and understanding warranties and indemnities, especially in distressed situations. They also offered valuable advice for applicants, focusing on mastering HR competency interviews and meeting client expectations in a case study. Patrick Connolly introduced us to Mishcon de Reya LLP, a law firm that boasts a 92% retention rate and values non-traditional, innovative, and entrepreneurial approaches. I learnt about The Mishcon Academy, which offers online events, including a "Fundamentals of Law" series and even hosts guest speakers like Scary Spice! I was also extremely impressed by their commitment to fostering diverse talent and providing hands-on learning opportunities. Jake Schogger @ the Commercial Law Academy emphasised the importance of commercial awareness, delineating both micro and macro factors involved. Themes for 2024 such as populism, near-shoring, and targeted AI were discussed alongside the roles of private equity and venture capital firms, detailing their investment strategies and operations. Additionally, key components of corporate law, including onboarding, project management, due diligence, and transaction documents, were outlined to provide a comprehensive understanding of commercial law practice.
