About us

In the 1920s the Midland Bank was one of the largest and most powerful in the world. To celebrate its achievements, the bank wanted a new London headquarters – a building that would stand out from the strait-laced Victorian architecture of The City. There was only one person to turn to: Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens, known to friends and family as ‘Ned.’  Lutyens, who was an architect for the rich and famous, spent the next four years drafting a vast 29,450sqm Grade-I listed building, designed to convey the impression of dependability and security demanded by a bank. The Midland Bank was later bought by HSBC, which remained in the building until 2007 when it relocated to a new head office in Canary Wharf.  Five years later, in 2012, Ron Burkle fell in love with the space and saw an opportunity to create a new approach to hospitality. He set about transforming the building into The Ned. The opening of The Ned in 2017 was one of London’s most ambitious hotel launches in recent decades, with a team working tirelessly for five years to repurpose the iconic building and make it relevant once again.  The Ned expanded in 2022 to include The Ned NoMad in New York and The Ned Doha in Qatar, with each building having their own architectural significance and history. Coming in 2024 is Ned's Club Washington, DC, the very first standalone members only property. Regardless of location, the ethos of The Ned and Ned's Club remains the same; to create a space for like-minded professionals to meet, work and have a good time. Working at The Ned means having some of the best reward packages in the business, an inclusive workplace with a lot of fun, amazing teammates and endless opportunities to grow your career in hospitality. #lovethened

We were so pleased to have Abi join us for finance appreciation week and to give our team some great tips on savings and investments. Everyone loved it and found the talk very insightful. Thanks, Abi for joining us and to our Head of Finance, Louise for making the event happen. #lovethened

Here’s the secret to loving your job… (Or at least why I love mine!) It’s about doing something that lets you end the day knowing you've made a positive difference in someone's life. This week, I had the pleasure of speaking at The Ned & Ned's Club, contributing to their employee well-being by providing insights on two key finance topics: 1️⃣ Savings 2️⃣ Investments It is never too late to learn about your finances and understand how current events affect them and what you can do about it. If I can help at least one person gain greater financial freedom, my reaction will be the same as in this picture! 😊 Thank you so much to Louise Ayres for organising the event, you're a star.

We’re absolutely thrilled that our People & Development team from The Ned City of London has been shortlisted for people team of the year at this year’s The Caterer Hotel Cateys. It’s wonderful recognition of the work they’ve done in creating an exceptional team experience for everyone at The Ned. Coupled with their two shortlisted nominations at next week’s HR In Hospitality Annual Awards for Excellence, it’s shaping up to be an exciting time for our team. Congratulations to Claire, James, Alysha, Klara, Cristina and Chris, and good luck to all the nominees at both awards nights. #hotelcateys #hrinhospitality #lovethened

As part of Emerging Talent Week, yesterday we hosted part one of our Women In Leadership series. The afternoon was opened up with a personal key note from one of our own inspiring female leaders - Georgia Frost - leading into a reflective workshop delivered by Robyn Filep from Becoming. We’re thrilled to see the next generation of leaders from our supervisory teams, internal management programme, and our new grad programme all coming together to explore and learn from shared experiences. #lovethened

Yesterday was the start of Emerging Talent Week at The Ned, and kicked off with a bumper group of fresh talent as alongside our regular new faces we also welcomed 7 people onto Lift (our graduate programme) and 13 people onto Ned’s University (our 3 year programme including a fully funded degree in partnership with the University of Gloucestershire). We’ve got a whole week of events planned to welcome these rising stars into the business; we’re so excited to have them and can’t wait to show them what we’re all about.

What an honour to have helped out at Providence Row for a day last week. Our Executive Chef Gilbert Holmes and Food and Beverage Director Jack Cohn cooked up a delicious breakfast and lunch service for the people looked after by Rob and his team at Providence Row. People Director Chris Gilchrist joined at lunchtime to offer support (but not any culinary skills!) Giving back to our local community is very important to everyone at The Ned and we were only too happy to support Providence Row through our long-standing partnership with StreetSmart Charity UK. We’re looking forward to continuing this work more in the future. A big thanks to Alysha A. from our people team for making this happen.

Chefs from The Ned London have partnered with Providence Row to help feed people affected by homelessness in East London. We were incredibly fortunate to have chefs from The Ned London take over our day centre kitchen where they prepared a delicious breakfast and lunch for our clients. This event marks the beginning of what we hope will be a lasting partnership. Thanks to their efforts, 52 vulnerable individuals, who might have otherwise gone hungry, enjoyed some delicious food. Providence Row’s Catering Manager, Rob, said, “The Chefs were a credit to The Ned London. Their approach and kindness towards our clients was brilliant to see. We work very hard to treat the people we serve with respect and give them the human experience we all need and deserve and Jack, Gilbert and Chris did that all day – it’s as important as the actual giving of food”. Tom Hill, Head of Philanthropy at Providence Row, added, "It was such a special occasion to have Jack, Gilbert and Chris cooking and serving meals for our clients. We take pride in serving high-quality food but The Ned London’s homemade yoghurt and focaccia bread, and, their Lasagne—just a few of the items on the menu—were absolutely delicious. A big thank you to StreetSmart Charity UK for making this wonderful collaboration possible."

Here at The Ned London we have been focusing on our team’s wellbeing, so we recently installed the SiSU Health UK self-service health stations. The station provided a great opportunity for our team to take proactive steps for their health and wellbeing. It was great to see the enthusiasm and engagement from everyone. In four minutes, our teams were are able to find out their health metrics including height, weight, blood pressure and heart age ❤️ With that information they can then access further support and plans to help them on their health journey 🚶♂️ A big thank you to Claire Corridan and Alysha A., for partnering with SiSU Health and for promoting a healthier team. We're proud to support such initiatives and look forward to more wellness collaborations in the future! #Lovethened

It was the largest of its kind ever produced in England when it was created in the 1920s. We also partner with Encore UK for all your audio-visual needs - making this the perfect space for conference events.   Our September diary is filling fast, get in touch with the team to secure a spot in our historic venue. Last week we held our assessment centre for our newest programme: Ned's University. 31 excited and curious people right at the beginning of their hospitality career came along to hopefully gain a space on our 3 year programme that combines practical work experience in multiple departments with a fully funded degree in Applied Hospitality Management, delivered on site by the University of Gloucestershire. 🎯 Candidates completed practical activities, group discussions, 1-1 chats, and a tour of The Ned, all delivered by managers from all over our business. 👩❤️👨 Big thanks to our special guests from the University of Gloucestershire: Sally Conlon and Gaurav Chawla 👏 And a well done from all of us at The Ned to each of our managers who stepped in to welcome and assess the day: Klara, Louise, Cristina, Boris, Anamaria, Gina, George, Tatjana, Vita, Rossella, Holly
