Passionate about recovery. Women's community support | Single/mixed residential rehabs | Trauma-informed care

About us

The Nelson Trust are experts in the provision of residential treatment and support for people with an addiction. This includes working with families and a dedicated residential addiction treatment provision for women who have been impacted by trauma, which includes a specialist programme for women with a history of sex working. Our approach is trauma informed, relational and oriented to lifelong recovery. In addition to treatment, we provide education, training and employment services, resettlement housing, and community-based support for those who identify as being in recovery from addiction. In the community, we provide a wide range of services, across Gloucestershire, Swindon & Wiltshire and Avon & Somerset from our Women’s Community Centres. We work with justice involved women, women with mental health issues, survivors of violence, abuse, and women who experience complex disadvantage. Our experience of working with women has informed our service delivery response to their experiences. Most of the women we work with have experienced abuse, trauma and sexual exploitation prior to entering adulthood. We believe that change is possible given the appropriate opportunity through individualised, holistic support and trauma informed approaches that respond to their life experiences and current challenges.

Community event in Swindon 🌞 Last week, the team at our Swindon Women's Centre had the pleasure of attending the Broadgreen Summer Community Event. Held in an area where support is needed most, it was inspiring to see local residents, community partners, and agencies coming together to raise awareness and offer vital resources. A testament to the strength and unity of our community!

Our Women's Action Group was created in response to the rising numbers of women experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping across Bristol. As one of the most popular groups at our Bristol Women’s Centre, the clients and staff strive to raise awareness and implement impactful change for those affected by women’s homelessness across the city💜 #TheNelsonTrust #ChangeIsPossible #Hope #Charity #EndWomensHomelessness #Support #Fund #DonatetoCharity #SouthWest #Wales #Community #Today #ThankYou #Everyone #Together #Love #Help #Fundraising #GiveBack #Volunteer #GivingBack #HelpingOthers #HelpOthers #DoGood #SocialGood #Change #MakeADifference

Meet Louise, our fabulous Peer Mentor Coordinator! ⭐ Louise is dedicated to creating a safe space for the women at our Gloucester Women's Centre to meet, create, and share their experiences with someone they can relate to. Many of our peer mentors are former clients who have taken the next step in their journey—from receiving support to giving it. Louise sees firsthand how sharing lived experiences can bring people together and help them feel seen. 💜 Become a valued peer mentor with The Nelson Trust here: https://lnkd.in/eqSGHYx4

"Out of the 360 degrees of change needed, all we need to do is be that one degree contributing to change in the world." 🌍 Our Director of Women's Community Services, Niki Gould, and Peer Mentor Support Coordinator, Louise Oldfield, had a fantastic afternoon last month at Bishop Rachel's garden party, celebrating other charitable organisations across the Diocese of Gloucester. Bishop Rachel took the time to thank The Nelson Trust and other charities across Gloucester, sharing the inspiring words that we are a part of making change possible.

Yesterday, we hosted an Open Day at our Residential Service in Stroud. We welcomed commissioners, Service Leads & Drug/Alcohol Workers into The Hub Academy, where they were informed of all things Nelson Trust! The day included an overview of our Residential Model from CQC Registered Manager Beth Hughes, alongside lived experience talks from three clients who have successfully completed treatment and are now living in our Recovery Housing across Gloucestershire. Guests were also given tours of both our Men’s and Women’s Services, where they were able to gain a real feel for the treatment environment. A massive thank you to Whippy Tee, who arranged free ice cream for everyone! 🍦 #NelsonTrust #RecoveryJourney

🌟 What an incredible day at our BBQ Picnic in Swindon! 🌟 A huge thank you to the Swindon Women's Centre team for organising a fantastic day for our clients and their families. From yoga sessions with the wonderful Sandi to relaxing Indian head massages, face painting, bead making, and fun on the bouncy castle, there was something for everyone! 🎨🎈 We’d like to express our gratitude to Lambourn Catering Butchers for donating the most delicious sausages and burgers – they were a big hit! 🍔🌭 And a special thanks to Sky's the Limit for the bouncy castle, which the children absolutely loved. We had 67 women and 23 children join us, and it was heartwarming to see everyone bonding and enjoying themselves. Moments like these are so important, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make it happen 💜
