The Women's Work Lab supports unemployed mothers on benefits to become work ready.

About us

The Women's Work Lab supports unemployed Mums who are receiving benefits to (re)start their careers. Our Mums have generally faced significant barriers to work including lone parenting, domestic abuse and children with special educational needs. Through a bespoke structured training programme and work placement, our Mums gain the confidence and skills they need to move closer to work and restart their careers. Founded in Bristol by Rachel Mostyn and Camilla Rigby, The Women’s Work Lab currently works with socially conscious employers across the South West.

Our Mums are on countdown to work placements! We have 60 Mums across the South West who will be starting work placements at so many brilliant organisations after half term. Cleopatra (pictured below) is spending four weeks at the brilliant Burges Salmon LLP where she will be experiencing many different areas of the business. Meanwhile down in Somerset our Programme Manager Fern Davies met with Tamsyn and the team at water2business recently. Water2Business will be hosting two of our mum's on placement this November for the first time. Whilst there they will be spending 4 weeks across a number of departments alongside learning all about the organisation and their aims. Do get in touch if your organisation is interested in hosting work placements with us - we have three intakes every year; November, February and June and we work with organisations of all different sizes right across the South West. #backtowork #workplacements #womeninbusiness

We love it when our graduates come back to visit our programmes and share their stories with our current Mums. The fantastic Jo, now working as a support worker and bakery lead at Step and Stone bakery, came to visit us at Cribbs Causeway. Exactly one year ago she was sat in the same place as the wonderful current cohort. As ever our mums had lots of questions, wanted to know the good and the bad but most of all, they were all inspired by her. And then in Bridgwater we were over the moon to welcome the amazing Fathima, who currently volunteers as a teaching assistant while she awaits her settled status. As Fathima says; " From Day 1 I started to gain self-confidence. The course was designed to allow us to use and share our experiences to move forward. Since graduating I am able to use all that I have learned. Now I am a very confident woman who is ready to face the world with many dreams." Thank you so much both Jo and Fathima! #PowerInPeer #WWL #backtowork #womeninspiringwomen

This is one example of the exceptional support that our Talent Team provides our mums, in the 9 months after they graduate from our core training programme. It's part of the ongoing journey to help our Mums see their strengths and match them with employers that can appreciate their brilliance ❣️💫

Talent coordinator supporting mums in the South West to return to work with family friendly employers who value their skills.

Today I'm sorting the 'What's your strength cards' to share with the mums I work with. These 7 cards are common things I hear but always start with 'I'm just.....' Regardless whether they are 'just' a mum, 'just' caring for a family member, 'just' have English as a second language etc they have a brilliant skillset to offer employers. We help them recognise the amazing talent they have 🫶 The Women's Work Lab

This is amazing Women's Work Lab graduate Abby Tweddle who just started a new role at Weston College. We couldn't be more thrilled for her ❤️ We are very much in full programme swing here - currently have 60 Mums across 4 different programmes and our Programme Managers are busy matching Mums with placement partners ahead of work placements after half term. We have a few matches to go and would love to hear from any businesses in Bristol and South Glos that may be able to offer our Mums experience in an office environment for three days a week (9.30-2.30pm) for 4 weeks (w/b Nov 4). This is a vital part of our programmes as it's a chance for our Mums to shadow and really experience the working world again and build confidence. It doesn't matter what sector you are in, it's much more about offering the support. Do please get in touch with Paige our South Glos Programme Manager or paige@womensworklab.co.uk or Sophia in Bristol sophia@womensworklab.co.uk to find out more. #workexperience #workplacements #backtowork

Check out our training dream team! Our Autumn programmes kick off next week and we are so excited to welcome 60 Mums to programmes in 4 different locations; Bristol, South Glos, Weston-super-Mare and Bridgwater. Our fantastic Programme Managers Fern, Paige and Sophia (a WWL graduate who has recently been promoted to Bristol PM!) work so hard with our Mums to get them to this point. We never underestimate what it takes to step out of a comfort zone and our PMs are there with our Mums every step of the journey. Now next week it's time for our Mums to enter the classroom and meet their brilliant trainers. These ladies have masses of experience in L&D and facilitation and will be supporting our Mums to make the next right step for them. Iona Alisea Devaughn will be working with our Mums in South Gloucestershire where the training is being held at johnlewis Cribbs Causeway thanks to our brilliant partnership with them. In Weston-super-Mare we have the awesomely talented Liz Ogborne and then brilliant Rebecca Underwood in Bristol and finally lovely Sophie Windsor in Bridgwater. A special welcome to Sophie who also recently joined the team as our Training & Compliance Manager. And finally not forgetting the fabulous Rae Harper who will be taking some sessions and supporting our Bath mums again next year. We can't wait to start the journey with our new Mums and see where it takes us... Shout out to everyone else in our amazing team as the weeks leading up to new programmes are FULL ON including Anna Wheeler, Samantha Cuffy, Sarafina F., Jenease Augustine, Stephanie Rajpura, Louise Duggan, Jenease Augustine, Magda Dworakowska, Chloe L., Timea Martha-Turik, Camilla Rigby Rachel Mostyn #backtowork #training #employmentsupport #workthatworks #womeninbusiness
