In the middle of all the great work in BBNI companies last year, leaders were helping trustees to shape a new strategy for the organisation. There were so many useful conversations in calls, meetings, focus groups and chaplains’ breakfasts and brilliant feedback from our leaders’ survey. As we embark on this next season of ministry we do so with a vision to raise generations of Christ-like men. We are focused on our purpose of advancing Christ’s Kingdom and in developing the strategy, we were reminded of our why. It comes from our founder Sir William Alexander Smith who said: ‘‘The Boys’ Brigade aims at nothing less than leading boys enrolled in its ranks to Jesus Christ, as their saviour, leader and friend.’ You can read more about our new strategy which was launched at ABIDE last week here: https://lnkd.in/ehpKPr4e or contact the office and we'll post you a copy of the strategy booklet. #boysbrigadeni #ShapingYoungLives #APlacetoBelong

Christian youth organisation, equipping leaders to make a difference in the lives of children and young people.
About us
The Northern Ireland Boys’ Brigade (BBNI) is a Christian youth organisation, equipping leaders to make a difference in the lives of children and young people from all communities, all faiths, and none. Over 11,500 children & young people aged 4-18 attend Boys’ Brigade companies in NI & Donegal every week. As a ministry of the church, each BB company is led by a team of volunteer leaders. BBNI has over 240 local BB companies and around 2,300 volunteer leaders. The Boys’ Brigade was founded in 1883 by William Alexander Smith, borne out of his experience in teaching bored boys in Sunday School. He saw an opportunity to reach boys through a combination of teaching Christian discipline with physical activities. The object was: ‘The advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.’ Boys’ Brigade is now a thriving worldwide organisation. September 2023 marked a new era for the organisation in Northern Ireland with the formation of The Northern Ireland Boys’ Brigade (BBNI). Rooted in Christian faith, the charity’s objects as detailed in the Articles of Association are: (1) The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness; (2) To encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of children and young people so that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, therefore to improve society; and (3) To be responsible for setting up and supervising local companies and grouping such companies into battalions to facilitate meeting these Objects. Our motto ‘sure and steadfast’ is based on Hebrews 6:19 ‘We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast. The Northern Ireland Boys’ Brigade is self-governing and independent of The Boys’ Brigade UK & RoI.

What a fantastic night of worship, praise, teaching and commissioning of our leaders, helpers and chaplains as they begin another season of Boys' Brigade in NI and Donegal. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. John 15:4
When people around you catch the vision..... A number of months ago I had this idea that we should start the new session of The Northern Ireland Boys' Brigade (BBNI) by getting leaders together for worship, prayer, teaching and chat. With leaders spread throughout NI and Donegal, we couldn't simply book one venue and expect everyone to come to us. Last night, thanks to an incredible team who caught the vision, ABIDE ran in 3 locations, attended by over 250 leaders, helpers and chaplains. It was such an amazing night with worship led by the team at Dundonald Elim, a powerful message from Andy Hickford based on John 15 and a prayer of commissioning for all our leaders, helpers and chaplains as they begin another season of working with around 11,400 children and young people in local BB companies. Last night could not have happened without so many brilliant people who took my idea and turned it into a reality. Huge shout out and thanks to our volunteer James McConkey who masterminded the tech and AV set up. James was brilliantly supported by Jonny Weston who ran the production from our Belfast venue, live streamed to Cookstown and Ballymena. Thanks also to our other IT volunteers Angus McBride and Matty Swarbrick. Thanks to the incredible The Northern Ireland Boys' Brigade (BBNI) staff team for so much hard work over many weeks and for managing each venue last night. We could not have done it without you all - David, Bethany, Jonathan, Emily, Wendy, Deborah and Donna. BBNI leaders in each location made sure everyone received a warm welcome and a great cuppa and it was fabulous to see so many leaders staying afterwards to chat, encourage each other and connect with new leaders. When people around you catch the vision incredible things happen! We are starting the new BBNI session with enthusiasm. We have been challenged by the teaching of John 15 and what it really means to abide in Jesus and we have taken time to commit our plans into God's hands as we seek to advance His kingdom through The Northern Ireland Boys' Brigade (BBNI). #boysbrigadeni #abideinHim #vision #teamwork

TEAMWORK! This morning we launched a new online resource area to equip our leaders with activities, crafts, videos, stories and themed nights for their BB company nights. Designing, writing and pulling together the initial set of resources to put on the site has been a huge project which involved all the BBNI staff team as well as volunteer leaders and partner organisations. Huge thanks to everyone involved and in particular our Engagement Officer and Programme Co-ordinator Bethany Smyth for leading this project. Thanks also to MXB Agency for developing the area as an extension to our main BBNI website. We'll be continually adding resources to the site, to ensure that great ideas are shared. If you've any suggestions for games and activities suitable for Boys' Brigade please let us know. #teamwork #ShapingYoungLives #boysbrigadeni

Some reflections on her recent learning experience from our Chief Officer Lisa Keys. #boysbrigadeni #team #learning
My passion for learning has been re-ignited over the last 6 months and I've had the benefit of completing 2 brilliant courses facilitated by CO3 Chief Officers 3rd Sector. 💡 My mind has been opened to other ways of doing things 😀 I've refined my juggling skills....juggling work, family, study and assignment writing 😍 I've met so many wonderful people who have generously shared their stories and experience to support and encourage other learners ☑ I've obtained a few extra certificates 💯 I've been able to put the learning into practice and am beginning to see the benefits, for both myself and The Northern Ireland Boys' Brigade (BBNI) I was asked by Suzanne Courtney to share my reflections at the celebration event for the leadership course completed in partnership with Ulster University Business School; CO3 Chief Officers 3rd Sector kindly added my reflection to their website (linked below). There are so many great opportunities for learning being advertised at the minute, through a variety of providers. If you are debating whether to sign up for one, my advice is ... get out from behind the podium and embrace the learning opportunity. I'm so glad I did. #alwayslearning #leadership #network https://lnkd.in/eysXTt9K

🎉 WE'RE CELEBRATING 🎉 Congratulations to our Training and Engagement Manager David Penney who has completed his ILM Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management. Investing in training and development provides a significant return, both for the individual and for the organisation. Equipping staff for their role and providing opportunities for learning and development are so important to us. David completed this course through NICVA (Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action) and the learning has helped him to expand his leadership skills, equipping him with best practice techniques for managing his team. Well done David. #leadership #training #investinginpeople

🎉 WE'RE CELEBRATING 🎉 Congratulations to our Engagement Officer Deborah who has completed her ILM Level 3 in Leadership and Management. Equipping staff for their role and providing opportunities for learning and development are so important to us. Deborah's role changed earlier in the year and she now has management responsibilities. This course which she completed through NICVA (Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action) has provided her with additional tools and techniques to supplement her existing knowledge and help her fulfil her new responsibilities. Well done Deborah. #boysbrigadeni #alwayslearning #leadership

‘My highlight was just learning new things for being a leader for anchors like different games and how other leaders structure their nights.’ ‘My highlight was the fun and fellowship with everyone. I love that we have been equipped over the weekend to step up for our Lord. The christian model from the leaders made it so special for me.’ STEP UP JULY 2024 #boysbrigadeni #leadership

'Delegate, communicate and open up about what you are struggling with.' We really enjoy equipping young leaders for their leadership role in The Northern Ireland Boys' Brigade (BBNI). The skills they learn are so useful and we encourage them to use them outside of their leadership in BBNI. We were delighted to partner with Made for More to deliver some leadership training at STEP UP, our leadership weekend for 18 - 30s. #boysbrigadeni #leadership #ShapingYoungLives
