Unleashing the power of partnerships for a prosperous, sustainable future
About us
The Partnering Initiative, is a pioneering global NGO, dedicated to driving widespread, systematic and effective collaboration between civil society, government and companies to deliver sustainable development challenges in all parts of the world. Bringing together 20 years of experience, and working in over 25 countries to-date, TPI continuously breaks new ground in expanding the theory and improving the practice of cross-sector collaboration. Through our programmes of action research, we systematise the essential processes of partnering and develop practical tools to help all sectors identify new opportunities, learn how to collaborate and implement effective partnerships. Our training and capacity-building programmes promote new standards of professional partnering practice and build the skills of practitioners around the world. The strategic advice and support we provide to leading international companies, development agencies, governments, and civil society organisations helps them rethink and adjust their approaches and harness the power of partnership to support their missions. The services we provide directly to partnerships help a wide range of collaborations to transform into strong, efficient and highly effective mechanisms that are yielding benefits well beyond their original objectives.

Global Leader in Partnerships for Sustainable Development; Executive Director, The Partnering Initiative
I'm honoured to represent The Partnering Initiative (TPI) at the #SummitOfTheFuture, #UNGA79 and #ClimateWeekNYC later this week and next. It will be a busy six days! I'll be going back to my NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration roots, speaking on a panel "Earth vs. Space: What is collective humanity and pluralism?" at a side event from UNESCO IESALC and the Interstellar Foundation. I'll be chairing a table discussion at the amazing morning of events our friends at Business Fights Poverty have put together. And I'll be attending countless side events both within and outside the UN, talking about our TRANSFORM! programme to empower philanthropy as catalytic partners for systemic change, as well as an exciting new initiative to empower cities to systematically unleash the power of all-of-society collaboration to deliver their climate goals. Most importantly, I will be meeting and scheming with a whole bunch of brilliant people - both old friends and new. If you're going to be in town, drop me a note!

We had the honour of hosting a fishbowl conversation on the catalytic role of foundations in Public-Private-Philanthropy Partnerships (PPPPs) at last week's #ConnectToChange conference organised by SwissFoundations in Sursee. TPI's Max von Abendroth facilitated an engaging discussion with over 60 foundation representatives. Olaf Hahn presented the PPPP "CLEF" in Côte d'Ivoire, where Jacobs Foundation, in collaboration with 15 cocoa companies and the national government, is: ✅Building schools ✅Developing curricula ✅Educating teachers ✅ Providing transport for children to access education This PPPP addresses a systemic challenge: child labour stemming from rural poverty, offering a way to break the vicious cycle. Thanks to @Hanna Surmatz / Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association and Jean-Christophe BARTH-COULLARÉ / WAPPP | World Association of PPP Units & Professionals for sharing their valuable insights. The fishbowl conversation yielded several important calls to action: 👉Standardise PPPP processes to increase replication of projects with systemic impact 👉Encourage regulators to allow foundations to take more risks and test innovative partnership formats 👉Establish peer exchange formats for practitioners to learn from each other and unlock full catalytic potential 👉De-risk complex systems change projects and share responsibility among PPPP partners to make projects financially viable TPI is committed to working with our allies, including WAPPP | World Association of PPP Units & Professionals, WINGS, Laudes Foundation, and UNIDO, to support the development and implementation of more transformative PPPPs. Building ecosystems for transformational change *** philanthropy's catalytic role in partnership with the private & public sectors | public-interest journalism | climate resilience | social justice | EU public affairs
