Championing the joy of good wine since 1874.

About us

Passion before Profit ‒ it’s a principle we’ve lived by since 1874. We only source the wines our buyers truly believe in, not the ones that make the most money. We guarantee the fairest prices for our members and for our growers. Our profits go back into making our services even better, so you can buy a bottle from us with complete confidence, knowing that 150 years of dedication, pride and care has gone into every sip. And if one of our wines isn’t to your taste, you can return it under our Society’s Promise. Discover more about our unique co-operative ‒ owned by our members, for our members ‒ on our website.

With the new government calling for closer partnerships with businesses to deliver economic growth, our CEO Steve Finlan has been on the front foot, inviting Kevin Bonavia, MP for Stevenage, to The Wine Society to discuss the impending duty changes. The new law (which you've heard us castigate countless times already) in its simplest terms, increases the number of duty brackets from 2 to 30 and comes into effect from 1 February 2025. In preparation for the changes, businesses will be forced to invest in the infrastructure required to manage the complex new system. For us at The Society, the capital required to implement the necessary changes will be more red tape, more unnecessary cost and no benefit to either consumers or the Treasury. This level of investment may not be possible for many SMEs and it’s certainly not something we wish to be spending our members’ money on. As a member of The Wine Society, Kevin was very interested to hear more about the law and the impact it will have across the wine and hospitality industries. By bringing this issue to Kevin’s urgent attention, we hope it opens a two-way conversation between our business and Westminster and more directly, highlights the need for the new government to support the drinks trade by offering an extension to the current easement. #FairWineTax #WineEasement

What a way to start the week with the Symington Vintage Port Day at The NoMad Hotel London on Monday. We took our guests on a journey that explored the pinnacle of what we produce in the Douro Valley, with 3 different masterclasses and 25 different Vintage Ports - from the recently-produced 2022s to the iconic 1963s. We held a vertical tasting of all 5 vintages of Capela do Vesúvio - our micro-terroir Vintage Port - and gave a sneak preview to the new presentation of our 2003 Vintage Port Library Releases from Dow's, Graham's and Warre's. The tastings were hosted by Head Winemaker Charles Symington and two members of the 5th gen - Harry & Anthony - and Filipe Silva of the SFE Sales Team. After lunch we held a panel discussion looking at Vintage Port in the on-trade and off-trade, with special guests Melania Bellesini, Head Sommelier at The Fat Duck Group, and Jo Locke MW, Buyer at The Wine Society (The International Exhibition Co-operative Wine Society Limited). The discussion was held by Euan Mackay, MD of John E Fells & Sons Ltd, and Stefan Neumann MS, Fells consultant. Throughout the day, our sommelier guests were invited to take part in a blind Vintage Port tasting competition hosted by School of Port - with the winner becoming the UK representative at the 2024 Douro Somm Camp. Announcement coming soon. Thank you to everyone involved in making the day so special - especially the Fells team for starting the decanting marathon at 6am! The annual Symington Vintage Port Day will move to a new city next year. Watch this space! #SymingtonFamilyEstates #Symington #VintagePort #BCorp #BCorporation #WineAsAForceForGood

The Wine Society is renowned for its range of wonderful wines at incredible prices. The latest selection, marking their 150th anniversary, does not disappoint with many mouth-watering, great value wines on show at the recent Press Tasting.   The society's own branded wines are a great way of exploring regions and styles you may be unfamiliar with at very affordable prices. For example, if you're looking for a fresh, citrus-tinged white with a saline, mineral edge, then try the 🇮🇹 Orvieto Classico 2023. Fancy a southern 🇫🇷 French red with good fruit expression and a tantalising touch of spice, that's so drinkable now? Try the Generation Series Vinsobres. Both of these are under £13, while venture to the northern Rhône, The Society's French Syrah 2022 is a mere £7.95. 🍷    Not sure about spending money on an 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 English still wine? Well, The Society's English White 2023 is a steal at £9.95 and is a light, gentle and delicious blend from Gloucestershire's Three Choirs ... and if you'd prefer to see what all the 🍾 English sparkling fuss is about, then Black Chalk's superb Classic and Rosé fizz, both from 2020, which I've recommended so many times before, are worth spending £43 for!   🇳🇿 Kelly Washington Waiheke Island Syrah 2022 is a fantastic and aromatic treat with a juicy fruit and herb character plus a savoury touch (£35), while the 🇫🇷 Marsannay Les Longeroies 2018 is elegant and expressive (£34) - a lovely example of a Burgundy Pinot Noir.   Rosé more your thing? Well, 🇬🇷 G & L Kintonis 2023 is a fresh Greek delight with red berries, a saline hint and a slight touch of green herbs. Chill and chillax for only £8.95!   Two superb wines that should definitely be on your shopping list:- · 🇮🇹 Rizzi Riccio Barbaresco 2020 - a classy Nebbiolo for £33.50 that delivers pure, juicy fruit and elegant, subtle spice and tea leaf notes without noticeable oaky flavours. · 🇳🇿 Neudorf Tiritiri Nelson Chardonnay 2022 - a beautiful example of a New Zealand Chardonnay that lives long on the palate with hints of peach, pear and a slight savoury minerality. Only £19 and well worth stocking up on!   .. and that's just a few of the wines to recommend! 😋 The Wine Society (The International Exhibition Co-operative Wine Society Limited) #wine #winesociety #wineindustry
