🚨 War is a real possibility - can the UK’s defence sector keep up? I’ve just published a deep-dive on Insider Media looking at Britain’s defence and aerospace industry in a time of rising global threats. We are a pro-business publication, and one thing is clear: Britain’s defence sector is relatively strong. Companies like Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, and Cammell Laird are doing at least one of the following - securing major contracts, delivering strong performance or ramping up production - demonstrating that Britain’s defence sector is ready to meet rising demand. And they’re not alone. But the real challenge lies with the Government: can Labour find the funding to expand the sector further and ensure the UK is fully prepared for modern geopolitical threats? Defence spending is not an easy political decision. With huge areas of public spending ring-fenced, increasing the budget means tough choices elsewhere. Meanwhile, with Trump poised to reduce US support for NATO, Britain may have to take far more responsibility for its own defence. In this piece, I explore: 🔹 The increasing security threats Britain faces, from Russian spy ships to cyber warfare 🔹 How UK defence firms are already scaling up to meet demand 🔹 The difficult decisions the Government must make to fund our armed forces This is not just about security - it’s about jobs, investment, and Britain’s place in the world. 📖 Read my full analysis here: https://lnkd.in/emjsdAX9

How ready is the UK for the defence challenges ahead? Today, former army chief Lord Richard Dannatt warned that the UK lacks sufficient forces and equipment, just as Sir Keir Starmer confirmed he would be willing to commit peacekeeping forces to Ukraine—if a deal to end the war with Russia is reached. Dannatt acknowledged that while Starmer is “doing the right thing,” such a move would come at a considerable cost. At Insider, we report on the defence and aerospace sector not just as a matter of policy, but from a business perspective - speaking directly with the companies at the heart of the supply chain, where defence meets industry and global strategy. In recent months, we have covered: 📌 Cammell Laird, a key supplier of Royal Navy warship components, ramping up military production amid concerns over a potential global conflict in the next three years: https://lnkd.in/eSs3aYTj 📌 NP Aerospace, the Coventry-based defence manufacturer, expanding its UK-based armoured vehicle assembly and integration capabilities: https://lnkd.in/esvQTi3f 📌 Saab’s new advanced UK manufacturing facility, designed to benefit the Ministry of Defence and enhance domestic defence capabilities: https://lnkd.in/eNHB_kpx 🔎 In an era of rising geopolitical tensions, we are committed to bringing unbiased, business-driven analysis of the defence industry - how it impacts supply chains, innovation, and investment across the UK. We’d love to hear from business leaders, defence specialists and policymakers: What do you think of the UK’s defence preparedness in the current geopolitical climate? 💬 #UKDefence #Manufacturing #Ukraine #BusinessNews #InsiderMedia
