Excited to share a brief cut from my latest episode on the the talktank podcast, where I had an enlightening conversation with Professor Michael Muthukrishna about how cultures shape innovation. One of the key points that really resonated with me, especially as a founder from the Balkans, was Professor Muthukrishna's discussion on how countries with histories of scarcity today often face a mismatch between their current possibilities and their cultural adaptations. These cultures tend to favour competitiveness, authoritativeness, and hierarchies over openness and collaboration, which could foster more progress. In my talks with VCs and founders from the US and UK, I've noticed that they often can't fully grasp the unique struggles and challenges that founders from such backgrounds face. And that's okay. What excites me is seeing the incredible people in the Balkans who are shifting the culture towards greater collaboration and innovation, often swimming against the tides in the current business culture.
