📹 New NPSA Video: Public Realm Design Guide for Hostile Vehicle Mitigation 📹 The National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) has launched a new video aimed at enhancing public safety through effective Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM). This resource highlights essential guidance for designing public spaces to protect against vehicle attacks, which have caused significant harm and damage in recent years. As cities increasingly adopt security measures like barriers and street furniture, integrating HVM into planning and site design is vital. This approach allows for reconfiguring layouts and adapting existing features to slow down vehicles and restrict attack routes, ultimately saving lives. The NPSA's Public Realm Design Guide not only provides practical advice on managing risks but also ensures that security measures remain open and inclusive. This guidance is essential for architects, design professionals, local authorities and venue managers responsible for public safety. 🚨 JESIP Leadership Changes & Future Challenges 🚨 The Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP) has a new leader—Bedfordshire Police Chief Superintendent David Boyle—taking over from Carl Daniels. With a bold 100-day plan in place, David aims to embed JESIP further into everyday emergency response. But, as with many public sector initiatives, the next steps depend on funding and political support. JESIP remains critical for improving collaboration between police, fire, ambulance, and other first responders. Will the government back it with the necessary resources? 🔊 Amplifying the voice of Paul Evans of Carlisle Support Services, Vice Chair at the UKCMA, on a critical issue facing our sector: labour exploitation. We have a duty as an industry to improve standards, working with authorities. In his recent post, Paul shares his insights on the bold move made to eliminate subcontracted labour from core security operations. With significant concerns around subcontracting practices and the impact on workforce quality and client loyalty, this topic is increasingly vital for crowd management professionals to consider. As Paul highlights, with over 130 live HM Revenue & Customs and Security Industry Authority investigations in progress, the net is tightening on those who continue to exploit labour for profit. Read Paul’s full post for more details on the challenges and what can be achieved when doing things right 👉 https://lnkd.in/e9kZzCdV #CrowdManagement #SecurityIndustry #LabourExploitation #EthicalBusiness #UKCMA #CrowdSafety #Justice #Integrity #ChangeMakers #UK #Crowds #Events #CrowdProfs #EventProfs #StrongerTogether #SaferCrowdsSaferVenues
For a number of months I have remained tight-lipped about the whole 'Labour Exploitation' issues that are now sadly widespread across the sector. Back in April, Carlisle, stood up as the largest Security company in the UK to make the bold move to remove any need for subcontracted labour to deliver its UK core security operations. Now ask yourself if a company that has only c.£100m turnover in its Security operations, then why cannot others do it also, especially when they have multiple times this level of turnover and operational footprint? (To be clear our bold promise includes our 'Events' offering which as many will know is significant on its own with so many high-profile clients and high volume venues). Over the last 12months I have observed a practice, that continues at pace, where larger Security companies are being awarded significant security contracts by major UK businesses, only with the sole intention of subcontracting the work at some 20-25% lower rates than they could deliver themselves. This then leads to a subcontractor doing the same but maybe not being as 'greedy' as they pass out the work for other providers maybe at 10-15% below the rate given to them by the main contractor, all of this out of sight to the overall client. Sadly it has become my view that the issue in some large businesses is so widespread that the profit being made off the subcontracting is now woven into their business profits, so removing it has become a real challenge, especially when you consider reward schemes are based on company profits. Even this week I heard that some were using the profits from their subcontracting to off-set an aggressive pricing strategy for winning new business at low margins. So what is my point here......well the attached Case Study shows what can be achieved when you do things right. On numerous contract awards we have inherited workforces that were heavily subcontracted, with some up to 50% of large teams being so. The quality of the officers was poor, as you can imagine, with a lack of loyalty or even attachment to the end user client or principal contractor. Across our busy summer we have again successfully and safely delivered many high profile events including but not limited to Royal Ascot, The Labour Party Conference, Pop Concerts, NFL games, Election Campaigns, and so much more. Finally I am even more pleased to hear that there are now some 130+ live HMRC / SIA investigations in play. From a recent HMRC webinar one of these cases has the potential for up to £50m of tax evasion.............and I am hopeful that this will lead to a successful prosecution. So the net is tightening and I thank all of those in the industry I love who have done so much to raise this vital matter. Keep the faith as from what I am seeing and hearing the wheels are moving and those who continue to exploit labour for profit will be brought out in full sight, and no doubt to justice.
