Supporting Local Students | Preparation is Key Recently, some of our team volunteered at Kibworth Mead Academy to help students develop essential life skills in preparation for their next steps. Matt and Karolina participated in mock interviews with Year 11 students, posing questions they might face in a real interview. Meanwhile, Holly and Grace joined a speed networking session, giving the students the chance to ask the volunteers questions about their career journeys. A Football Comeback | Office 4 - 2 Factory Last Friday, a passionate group of Thorpes came together for a friendly 5-a-side match, and back by popular demand, the Factory team took on the Office once more. Both sides were eager to compete, ready to strike and engage in some healthy rivalry. With all players demonstrating impressive agility and determination, it was ultimately Team Office who claimed victory with a 4-2 win. 🏆 While the Factory may not have been thrilled to hand over the trophy, there was one thing everyone could agree on - raising money for a great cause. The match was held in support of our patron charity, the Mental Health World Cup, making the win all the more meaningful. Celebrating Employee Traditions Today, we’re embracing the annual Polish tradition of Tłusty Czwartek, or ‘Fat Thursday.’ 🇵🇱 Karolina, one of our team members from Poland, shared this special celebration with us by bringing in mouthwatering treats from a nearby Polish bakery. Much like Pancake Day, Tłusty Czwartek is a day for indulging in delicious sweets before the start of Lent. Modern Joinery Meets Cutting-Edge Technology We recently completed this efficient device testing lab for an ongoing project in London, where modern joinery meets the latest tech. Constructed with black MF MDF and laminate, this 3-meter-wide cabinet makes the most of the available space, holding up to 32 devices at once. The design also includes open shelving and larger cupboards to optimise the space around the gadgets. Each device pod is carefully designed to accommodate technology for testing apps on the connected phones. The lab features hand-veneered birch and laminate finger-pull doors, giving it a polished, modern look. Making an Impact | DIY SOS Recently, Thorpes has had the pleasure of being a part of the incredible DIY SOS program in Leicester.🔨 Around 400 volunteers and local businesses came together to support this amazing cause, and we’re extremely proud to have been a part of it. Thanks to an initial suggestion from Mark Warren, one of our joiners, we were chosen as one of the joinery companies for this project. It helped to turn the dreams of a thoroughly deserving local family into reality. A huge thank you to everyone involved in DIY SOS. Overbury Careers Fair | Inspiring the Next Generation of Learners On Tuesday, a team from Thorpes participated in the Overbury & Morgan Lovell Careers Fair in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week. The event took place at London South Bank University, where we joined other industry leaders to engage with students from GCSE to university level. It was truly rewarding to inspire and guide today’s young learners as they explore a sea of opportunities for their future careers. National Apprenticeship Week | The Final Push In celebration of this year's National Apprenticeship Week, we caught up with our second-year apprentices to hear about their experiences and plans for the future. Having started their apprenticeship in 2023, they’re now nearing the final months of their two-year course. From school leavers to those making a career change, when asked why they chose joinery, the apprentices shared a common theme: they all enjoy creating and take pride in seeing their work come to life. As they near the end of their training, the apprentices are eager to continue honing their skills. Their plans post-completion involve diving deeper into carpentry and traditional joinery to further expand their expertise. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s been a pleasure to watch Fran, Danielle, Jack, and Ed progress. When asked what advice they’d give to others considering learning a new skill, they all agreed: "Just do it.
