TMC Marine is taking part in the 2024 OSCAR Dragon Boat Race and needs your help!   The OSCAR campaign (The Ocean and Shipping Community Advancing Children's Health and Research) is an innovative fundraising partnership uniting the international shipping community to raise funds at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH).   Background of the OSCAR campaign The campaign is the inspiration of Phil Parry, Chairman of Spinnaker, whose son Oscar received life-saving care at GOSH. Oscar had leukemia twice and endured three transplants before being cured by some pioneering research.   Since its inception in 2011, the OSCAR campaign raised over £2 million, helping to refurbish vital facilities at the hospital, and funding pioneering research into childhood cancers and immune diseases at GOSH and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.   About the OSCAR Dragon Boat Race This annual event has already raised over £850,000 towards the total raised by the OSCAR Campaign.   Help TMC add to this total by contributing to our Just Giving page: https://lnkd.in/eT-3_n45   More information about the event and Great Ormond Street Hospital can be found here: https://lnkd.in/drmYTpcM

Master Mariner / MSc / Marine Salvage and Project Coordinator / Maritime Risk and Safety Governance Professional

Personal safety onboard any vessel is a group effort best implemented through transparent safety leadership. Having investigated many personal injury cases and provided expert witness evidence in court it still intrigues me that as an industry we still see the same issues arise time and time again. A safety system is only as good as the people implementing it, the human factor and effect in safety operations needs to be prioritized as a momentary lapse of judgement or lapse in onboard safety leadership after a long hard day, week or month of being at sea can have detrimental effects on both the seafarer and their family.

**Safety at sea and ashore** Operating in challenging environments always comes with risks. Safety has improved greatly since the implementation of the International Safety Management code, however even with proper training and fully compliant vessels and crew, human behaviour remains a risk. And that can lead to accidents and personal injury claims. In this article, two of our experts Richard Meikle and Michael Fowkes provide guidance on the causes and dangers to crew and passengers at sea and ashore when safety procedures are not observed. #marineclaims #marinenews #marineinsurance #safetyatsea

How to mitigate the risks of the offshore energy transition. Geopolitical instability is affecting global trade, shipping, the supply chain and commodity prices. Concerns have also been raised about the supply of energy and the potential for another crisis. Adapting to these pressures is putting additional strain on the energy transition as the renewable assets industry looks to continue to scale and accelerate. Undergoing a structured period of due diligence from a technical perspective ensures that the investment risks are recognised and allows for the flow of crucial information between investors, their advisors, insurers and project partners.  In this article, Rob C., our Head of Advisory and Energy Transition, considers the new challenges raised by the advance in novel offshore wind technology and how stakeholders can confidently progress together. The article can also be downloaded from our website. Link in the comments. #futureenergy #offshorewind #floatingoffshorewind #marinenews
