TNEI scores a win for With Kids in a 5-a-side football tournament! ⚽ Last week teams from TNEI, Muirhall Energy, The National HVDC Centre, Wood Group, and Frazer-Nash Consultancy came together for an afternoon of fast-paced competitive action raising money for local Glasgow charity With Kids. Well done Max and the rest of the team for organising, and thank you to everyone who took part! The teams took to the pub afterwards for some important rehydration and a catch up after the event. Celebrating 2️⃣ 5️⃣ years! ☀ On a sunny September day, TNEI saw the whole Newcastle team spend the day on the Northumberland coast, volunteering their time and skills in the Bamburgh sand dunes with local charity Northumberland Coast National Landscape Conservation Team (Coast Care Trust).  Colleagues were tasked with supporting the charity in tackling the invasive plant species Pirri Pirri Burr. Moise, Ben and James even went for a lunchtime dip in the sea (we will save you from the photographic evidence though)! Read how we got on here: https://bit.ly/3XTHs7s

Solar & Storage Live - Are you there? 🏖️ ☀️ Mustafa Kayikci doesn't look happy to be here...but trust us - he is bouncing ⚽ around with excitement!! Visit our stand (you'll find us on e43b) - there is loads going on... 🧸 Correctly guess the name of our TNEI bear and you will take it away with you! 📊 Live on the stand, Owen is demonstrating TNEI's novel co-located site behavioural and revenue model, which decides the optimal actions which maximises financial (energy trading, ancillary services etc) and non financial objectives within a given scenario. Come and see what it is all about! 📣 Jim (who is currently heading up a working group for the Institute of Acoustics, authoring a good practice guide on noise assessment for solar and BESS) is here to discuss the challenges and solutions for getting your development to operate within planning condition noise level limits. We also have the IPSA team on hand for any power systems analysis needs. Something for everyone!

🌍⚡Delivering curtailment projects at transmission level across the UK 🌍⚡ TNEI has recently been supporting several clients across different regions, helping them to identify available headroom within network boundaries and calculate the percentage of curtailment required based on specific network constraints. These projects are playing a crucial role in improving grid stability and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources. 🔌 Key highlights: • Successfully completing multiple transmission-level curtailment projects across various regions of the UK, whilst verifying and validating power flows and plant dispatches, which is absolutely critical for network flows and identifying capacity • 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Using python API of simulation software packages to construct and analyse future network configurations • 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Performing MILLIONS of simulations scenarios spanning across multiple years to identify the most onerous scenarios that could result in curtailment of projects • 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀: Estimating the curtailed energy by considering all probable generation & demand profiles and scenarios, including outage and contingency conditions. Our report comes with easy-to-interpret visualisations, quantifying project risks and providing essential input to your decision-making process. We're proud of the work our team has accomplished and the trust our clients have placed in us to help navigate these complex energy challenges. Check out our video based on anonymised & extrapolated results, a customisable heatmap giving a high-level indicative view of the curtailed energy percentages over multiple years. The bar chart below the heatmap gives a more granular view of the curtailed energy percentages monthly. If you have any curtailment studies or projects that need to be undertaken, feel free to approach us—we’d be happy to discuss how we can support your energy needs! Got a question? Amazing news! 🎉 Our £8m MultiResilience project with Northern Powergrid, Smarter Grid Solutions, and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has received funding through the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF), an Ofgem programme managed in partnership. The SIF programme is managed in partnership with Innovate UK, to develop cost-effective, coordinated solutions that will protect our customers' power supplies during extreme weather events. ⚡ Why is this project important? Resilience is increasingly important as customers rely more on electricity for heat and transportation, with greatest value in rural locations that have a heightened risk of outage. Proliferation of Low Carbon Technologies across LV and HV systems present opportunities, if coordinated appropriately, for delivery of resilience services that maintain customer supply during unplanned grid outages. Previous projects have demonstrated separate approaches via LV-connected and HV-connected resilient DERs. Coordination of such solutions can enhance the value case of resilience. The project will compare and contrast technologies and optimise hybrid applications of the two approaches to deliver cost-effective resilience to customers.   Sarah Sheehy and the team at TNEI will work with Northern Powergrid to analyse network impacts, lead the development of specifications of MultiResilience, and undertake virtual trial simulations to understand and confirm the implications for the broader network.
