Making a lifetime of difference for seriously ill children
About us
Hearing the news that your child has a life-limiting condition and is likely to die young is completely devastating. For tens of thousands of families in the UK this is the reality. These children have very complex and unpredictable conditions and often need round the clock care, seven days a week. Together for Short Lives is a UK wide charity that, together with our members, speaks out for all children and young people who are expected to have short lives. Together with everyone who provides care and support to these children and families, we are here to help them have as fulfilling lives as possible and the very best care at the end of life. We can’t change the diagnosis, but we can help children and families make the most of their time together.

"Children's hospices provide not just medical care, but a haven of comfort and compassion through wraparound care for the whole family." Some of you may remember three years ago when we were campaigning to be the next charity Morrisons partnered with - and if so, you will remember the important role Emily played in helping us secure the partnership. Emily's beautiful daughter, Amelia, has a rare genetic neuromuscular disorder and along with her husband and younger daughter, the family benefits from the vital support of Keech Hospice Care, their local children's hospice. Unfortunately, not all families with seriously ill children are aware of the support available to them. Through our Community Outreach Project, which was made possible by the Morrisons partnership, we have reached 1,415 families, ensuring they know that help is within their grasp. With children's hospices facing rising costs and falling funding, fundraising has never been more vital to build a better future for seriously ill children and their families. Over the last 20 years, with your help, we have raised £34 million for children’s hospices, creating countless memories for families. With your help, we are fighting for a future where no child or family is left behind when it comes to palliative care. From fair funding for children’s hospices, to ending the postcode lottery of care, your support is helping us to campaign tirelessly for seriously ill children across the country today, tomorrow and long into the future. Across the country, grieving parents and siblings rely on the counselling services of children's hospices to navigate their grief. Thanks to Morrisons colleague and customer support, we have been able to set up the Building a Legacy Together grant - providing hospices with the funds to purchase specialist equipment and undergo renovations. Of the 29 grants we have awarded, three have been for building counselling pods. These pods provide a safe and serene space for families to express their emotions and navigate their grief. Gareth Pierce, CEO of Forget Me Not children's hospice, shares, “Having this quiet, cosy space in our grounds means we make it easier for families to access the counselling that is so vital in supporting them.” To discover more about the impact you've made, follow the link: https://bit.ly/3BVS0vN

Today, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves announced a series of measures which have the potential to improve the lives of seriously ill children and their families. These important financial settlements must now be the springboard for urgent action to fairly and sustainably fund palliative care for seriously ill children and their families. They do not have time to wait. Our #Budget2024 reaction: https://lnkd.in/eHmC-ejy
