Another visit to the City of Glasgow College, this time to talk to our future Deck Officers. This visit aligns with STEM Careers in our industry and coincides with Merchant Navy Day. The first intake of around 85+ Deck Officer Cadets for 2024 kicked off this week. As always, the Scottish Branch of IMarEST was engaged in the welcome introduction week in Glasgow. The talk included an introduction to The Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST) and covered: - Benefits of being a Student Member and what that free membership entails. - How IMarEST can be a partner after completing the Cadetship. - Continued professional development (CPD) and attaining professional recognition. - Career opportunities across Marine, Oil & Gas, and Offshore Renewables. - Setting up an IMarEST Cadet/Student Branch at the college, supported by the Main Scottish Branch. Following a previous talk to Engineering Disciplines, our next aim is to invite interested Cadets from Deck and Engineering faculties to a discussion. We will provide guidance and support on setting up a student branch. Expected activities include: - Networking with industry colleagues and attending local lectures on Marine topics arranged by the Scottish Branch of IMarEST, some jointly with IES and RINA. - Arranging visits to vessels during their docking period to gain basic knowledge. - Networking with IMarEST’s other student branches and sharing best practices. - Inviting Marine industry professionals to student branch talks on relevant topics, potentially including organizations involved in Ship Management & Operations, Offshore Renewables, Marine Consultancies, Class Societies, and Flag State Authorities. Our thanks go to Dr Paul Little CBE, Dhruva Kumar, and other members of the City of Glasgow College faculty teams for their support. Thanks also to Iain Anderson, David Wilson and Sol Judah from the IMarEST Scottish Branch for their dedication and engagement on this project. Other opportunities for IMarEST inductions, open days, and talks to Officers doing their senior tickets at College will be arranged in coordination with the College program. #IMarEST #IES #RINA #CityofGlasgowofGlasgowCollege #COGC #CalmacFerries #DalesMarine #TracRenewables #MerchantNavy

Absolutely thrilled to have attended the 3rd International Conference on Green Energy and Environmental Technology (GEET-24)! 🌿🔋 It was an incredible experience presenting our topic on the "Optimisation Software Framework for Advanced Floating Offshore Wind Farm Operations and Logistics". Here’s a glimpse of what our research is all about: 🌊 Abstract Overview: This study introduces an innovative optimisation tool designed for the daily operations of wind farms, focusing on optimising routes for Service Operations Vessels (SOVs) and Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) engaged in maintenance activities. Unlike other tools, this solution effectively minimizes both travel distance and fuel consumption, while ensuring timely interventions and maximizing resource utilization, thereby boosting overall productivity. Key points of the study include: Development: Crafting optimisation codes using Python to streamline the routes of SOVs and CTVs based on offshore wind turbine service needs. Constraints Consideration: Factoring in climate conditions, operational timeframes, vessel availability and capability, and CTV capacity for technicians or passengers. Task Prioritisation: When servicing all failed turbines in a day is unfeasible, the tool prioritizes tasks to efficiently allocate resources for maintenance. Clustering Techniques: Implementing clustering to group turbines for specific CTVs based on their locations, further optimizing maintenance operations. Being part of GEET-24 was not only enlightening but also inspiring, as it underscored the importance of continuous innovation in green energy and environmental technology. I'm excited to further refine this tool and contribute to the efficiency and sustainability of offshore wind farm operations. A big shoutout to my co-researchers Prof. Iraklis Lazakis MBA CEng FSNAME FRINA from University of Strathclyde NAOME and Sol Judah, and Callum Abbey from TRAC Renewable Services for their invaluable contributions and collaboration in this project! #GEET24 #GreenEnergy #OffshoreWind #Innovation #Optimisation #Sustainability #Python #RenewableEnergy #EnvironmentalTechnology #WindFarms #Research #TracRenewable #UniversityofStrathclyde #NAOME

Bridging the gap between industry and academia🖇️ We’re proud to announce that TRAC Renewables is enhancing its collaboration with the academic world. Through the dynamic 'Knowledge Transfer Partnership' (KTP), we aim to foster innovation by connecting businesses with graduates and academics across the UK. Sol Judah, our Board Advisor and an alumnus of the University of Strathclyde's Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering (NAOME), will lead this effort on our behalf. With his extensive industry experience and scholarly background, Sol is the ideal link for this initiative. Continuing our tradition of academic involvement, earlier this year, Kenny Wiggins our Board Advisor and Fit4Offshore Renewables Program Manager, also joined the University of Strathclyde as a Visiting Professor. His role underscores our commitment to inspiring the next generation of engineers and bridging the gap between industry and higher education. 🔗 Learn more about the initiatives on our website here: https://bit.ly/3Vwz3Wu #KTP #Renewables #Academia #Collaboration #SustainableFuture
