In yesterday's #Budget, the Chancellor increased the lower rate for capital gains tax (CGT) from 10% to 18%, with the higher rate going from 20% to 24%. There is a fundamental difference between going to work and earning a salary and taking a risk with your capital, and this ought to be recognised by the Government. To fuel growth and innovation, we need to encourage risk-takers, not penalise them. We’ve been saved from the worst-case scenario, but any increase in CGT will inevitably diminish #investment by UK #investors and drive private market managers to invest elsewhere. This is counterintuitive at a time when the UK has the opportunity to differentiate itself from its European neighbours and drive innovation and growth through UK private companies. #Budget #investors #investment #SME #CGT #capitalgainstax #UKbusiness
