** Electrical Workshop Update ** Thank you to RB Tools & Fixings (Cyclomarket Ltd) in Corby for their support on pricing and sourcing for the storage solution in our new workshop. The Bunker Storage system from Draper Tools is a sturdy build, and gives a sleek look to our workshop. Time to fill the draws with cable and components, and then on to installing our demonstration boards. ** Engineering Design Show ** As part of their apprenticeship, our budding Engineers conduct a unit on Engineering Design Processes, so what better way to inspire innovative thinking than visiting the Engineering Design Show. ** Electrical Engineering Workshop ** We’re still not finished, but we’re nearly there. Next week will see the installation of smartboards and tutors PC’s, and workbench storage solutions along the full length of the back wall. This is going to be the perfect learning space for Engineers at any point of their career to explore industrial control circuits and enhance their knowledge. Projects like this are only possible with the support of local industries who put early careers strategies in place, and actively promote employee development from grass roots like school leavers, to the ‘upskilling’ of existing staff members. ** Manufacturing Discussion Panel ** Yesterday I had the pleasure of being invited to sit on a panel discussing manufacturing and enterprise in Northamptonshire. Compèred by Kevin Rogers who was very gentle, we explored topics such as digital transformation in automation, sustainable practices in supply chains and recruitment, retention and skills in the manufacturing sector. These topics allowed me to highlight the amazing work our apprentices and our partner companies do, and how they work towards supporting and even driving such key areas. When businesses have an early careers strategy, they are creating a pipeline of talent which not only brings in new faces and fresh perspectives, but also promotes a culture of progression and career opportunity internally. We have Level 3 Engineering apprentices earning 40k+ in their 4th year, and due to the skills shortage nationally, being paid in some cases 50k+ for their skills, knowledge and developed experience on completion of their apprenticeship which is amazing. Imagine your child in their early 20’s earning 50k+ with no university debts, 4 years industry experience and a career path which actually increases in demand with increased automation. Exciting start to the new term! New T-Level, VRQ and returning students! Exciting times and so many opportunities to develop the next generation of #engineers, #technicians & #Mechanics. We have have attracted so much talent and who knows what future opportunities might unfold! Reflected on my own year with my daughter recently receiving her GCSE results. I remember the utter jubilation that she managed to achieve her #GCSE Maths & English grades. Made me reflect some of new students that didn’t quite make it over the line. Reengaging with #Maths & #English must be so hard once starting at College. Opening the envelope to see that grade is such a emotional experience!! I am planning to try and employ those that did make it to become mentors for those they didn’t! ** Wiring and Controls Workshop ** As part of our continued investment and growing provision, we are building new training facilities dedicated to the wiring and testing of electrical control circuits, and panel wiring. The 2 teaching spaces are progressing nicely, and will be bespoke to electrical wiring as a discipline, with a focus on developing a firm understanding of industrial control circuits, and the wiring requirements of IEC 60204, and other related regulations and standards.
