Norwich-based Triple Bottom Line Accounting wins national business award https://lnkd.in/eYvtKhNZ Dr Peter Ellington of Norwich-based Triple Bottom Line Accounting has been named “Most Inspiring Accountant 2024” in a national business award. Peter and his team had already won the “Consistently High Standards” and “High Profile Practice” categories before beating five other finalists to win the overall 2024 AVN Award. This was due to our focus on supporting businesses in becoming more sustainable while remaining financially secure, and helping clients develop a Net Zero strategy. Triple Bottom Line Accounting is no stranger to awards, having won Small Firm of the Year (Midlands, Wales and the East of England) in the 2023 Accounting Excellence Awards. We also won the Changing Lives award in last year’s AVN Awards. Commenting on his win, Peter said: “It’s a real honour to receive these awards. They are very much the result of a tremendous team effort. We aspire to be the change we want to see in creating a “business for good”. This means that we each bring a diverse but equally valuable range of skills and experiences to promote the culture and values of Triple Bottom Line Accounting. We believe that profit is not the purpose of business but the outcome of a well-run business living out a purpose that benefits society and the environment.” The Most Inspiring Accountant Award is organised by the training and coaching organisation AVN Inspiring Accountants #accountancy #sustainability #sustainableaccounting Tatiana Blana ACCA Richard Newell Tatiana Blana ACCA Claire Atkinson Emma Slack Shane Lukas Susan Clegg

Congratulations to all the winners of the Accountancy Excellence Awards 2024 and to all our fellow finalists. There were no awards for TBLA this year, but we were given a good night out and caught up with our fellow sustainability-minded accountants! To be a finalist two years in a row is fair recognition of how we are growing our practice while increasing our sustainability and ESG services to a broader range of organisations. Our CEO, Dr Peter Ellington, was a judge for the second year of the #ESG awards, so that is a category we cannot enter. However, we applaud the increased number of accountants that are rolling out their sustainability and net zero services, a promising sign for the future of our profession. It was great to catch up with Shane Lukas of AVN Inspiring Accountants. Emma Slack of AVN has been mentoring our SMT and helping the company live up to its "Caring, Professional, and Progressive" values. #AE2024 Tatiana Blana ACCA Richard Newell Claire Atkinson Robert Hall

Understanding Neurodiversity in the Workplace Thank you to James Kindred for kicking off the TBLA team away day with a presentation and Q&A session on this important topic. We thoroughly recommend this workshop for any workplace, regardless of size. Improving our interactions and communication with each other and our clients is crucial. Some Outcomes • A better understanding of what it means to be neurodiverse and how to support a neurodiverse colleague, employee or client. • A more inclusive workforce and employer. • Feeling like we all know and understand more, some assumptions and stigmas have disappeared. • Providing further food for thought on how we do our day-to-day work and communicate with each other and clients. • The power of "why"! Further details of the content of the workshop · How to create a better workplace, not just a neurodiverse inclusive workplace · How to tackle team building days, social or networking. Many (neurodiverse) people cannot respond to spur-of-the-moment questions - so how do you manage these impromptu moments? · Written communication should be used to back up or replace verbal instructions James' Story · Late diagnosed – James was diagnosed at 45. · Late diagnosis often leads to temporary skills regression due to overwhelm- reduced working hours or sabbatical. · No health support for late-diagnosed adults currently - so the onus is on family and employer. Some interesting questions that James answered for us: · Aren't we all neurodivergent to some extent? · How do I get tested to see whether or not I am neurodivergent? · Do we need to be treating/communicating with neurodiverse individuals differently', or should we just be treating/communicating with everyone in the way that works best for them? · Have you ever been in a situation that made you feel like you weren't normal? #DEI #Neurodiversity

In April, our sustainability director, Fran Ellington, participated in an ESG panel hosted by Sage at the Digital Accountancy Show. In this short clip, she explains how accountants can empower their small business clients to measure their greenhouse gas emissions (carbon accounting) and use the emissions report to develop a successful Net Zero plan and strategy. She argues that accountants, as the trusted advisors to businesses, are well placed to offer a net zero advisory service at affordable prices, ensuring that even small businesses can access this crucial service. Fran will help a client choose the most appropriate measurement tool, which may be Sage Earth for Sage clients or Trace for our many FreeAgent clients. For those with a very limited budget we might use the free Normative calculator on the SME Climate Hub In this short clip, Fran discusses running a workshop (developed in collaboration with Alasdair Wilcock) with a small business's owners and employees using the "Inform—Consult—Involve—Collaborate—Empower" model. This involves: 1. A short presentation on the current climate change science and the role of SMEs in mitigating climate change. 2. A presentation of the business's greenhouse gas emissions with Q &A 3. A facilitated discussion to develop a net zero strategy that is created and understood by all participants 4. Followed by a report on suggested actions and goals. She advises that accountants, as trusted advisors to their SME clients, can leverage their financial expertise to analyse the plan's cost versus the cost of inaction and appropriately budget for it. A well-considered financial plan will ensure success. Tessa Hebditch ACMA, CGMA of Chickp. tells her incredible story of helping organisations help their women get back into work after maternity leave or a break from work due to many other caring obligations—equity in the workplace. Sarah Whale of Profit Impact | B Corp™ discusses the crucial practice of conducting a quarterly review of the ESG strategy, emphasising the importance of continuous evaluation and improvement. If you would like to try out our services as an existing or prospective client please message us for more details and for the best email address to write to! Triple Bottom Line Accounting was unable to attend the march in London last weekend but fully supports Business Declares. As business leaders we declare a Climate and Ecological Emergency and call on the next government to direct funding and policy toward mitigating global warming and biodiversity loss with renewed effort. To find out where your candidates stand on the Climate and Nature Bill check out this database: https://lnkd.in/e56_jtJa and on our UK NDCs (commitment to net zero by 2050) here: https://lnkd.in/eYkt6TgN Make climate an election issue before it is too late! Businesses face an existential crisis as well as living organisms! There are the risks of losing our supply chains or finding our premisses cut off by floods or storm damage. There are are also opportunities to make a BIG difference. We are chronicling our business actions on our blog page: https://lnkd.in/eG5zRZpF We will be publishing our fourth annual carbon footprint report and mitigation strategy soon having worked with Trace to produce a more comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions calculation that in previous years. We also encourage those who want to understand how their businesses can help to enrol on one of the Estu Global CMI accredited Carbon Reporting Manager and Sustainable Business Manager Skills for Life Bootcamps courses currently available in Norfolk, Suffolk and Hertfordshire. 60K+ people took to the streets of London on Saturday to send a clear message - Restore Nature Now - and Business Declares were there too to show that the business sector also cares deeply about nature and healthy ecosystems and that it’s not the domain only of environmental groups. We marched alongside business leaders and employees to highlight the fundamental link between healthy ecosystems and healthy businesses. We call upon the government to take bolder and more stringent action in terms of money and policy to protect and restore nature now. Hear from those in attendance in the video below, filmed and produced by Connor Newson and a big thank you to the following for their participation: Russ Avery – amplifying purpose-driven brands - Avery & Brown | B Corp™, Hannah Temple - TealCo, Jo Swift - Greenhouse Communications, Roxy Rocks-Engelman - Cafédirect Group, Dominick Pegram - Salt & Pegram, Kelly Moir 🌍🫂, Angela Monaghan - Bates Wells, Lizzie Rivera - Live Frankly, Ben Tolhurst The march may be over but we need to continue to take action and demand change.

No words. No numbers. No graphs. Just a series of vertical coloured bars, showing the progressive heating of our planet in a single, striking image. The climate stripes were created by Professor Ed Hawkins at the University of Reading in 2018. They show clearly and vividly how global average temperatures have risen over nearly two centuries. How do they work? Each stripe represents the average temperature for a single year, relative to the average temperature over the period as a whole. Shades of blue indicate cooler-than-average years, while red shows years that were hotter than average. The stark band of deep red stripes on the right-hand side of the graphic show the rapid heating of our planet in recent decades. Start the conversation The most powerful thing you can do in the next two weeks is to challenge the various political candidates who are asking for your vote. Lord Deben says that candidates of all parties, when he chides them for the absence of climate concern on their leaflets, respond that it’s a subject that rarely comes up on the doorstep. Let’s change that! Find out where your candidates stand on the net zero debate here: https://lnkd.in/eXbMYuHu if the misinformation and disinformation about man made climate change makes it hard to take part in a conversation there’s some great advice here. https://lnkd.in/d3NCDaW6 #ShowYourStripes.
