Two weeks ago, #Australia passed a ground breaking mandatory climate reporting legislation, requiring large and medium-sized companies, along with certain financial institutions, to disclose their climate-related financial risks and opportunities starting from the 1st of January, 2025. ℹ️ Key Components of the Disclosure Structure: 1️⃣ Governance: ● Board Oversight: Disclose how your board oversees climate-related risks and opportunities. ● Management's Role: Outline how management assesses and manages these risks. 2️⃣ Strategy: ● Climate-Related Risks and Opportunities: Identify short, medium, and long-term climate risks and opportunities. ● Impact on Business: Explain how these factors impact your business strategy and financial planning. ● Resilience: Assess the resilience of your strategy under different climate scenarios, including a 1.5°C global warming scenario. 3️⃣ Risk Management: ● Identifying and Assessing Risks: Describe your processes for identifying and assessing climate-related risks. ● Integration: Detail how these risks are integrated into your overall risk management framework. 4️⃣ Metrics and Targets: ● Metrics: Disclose the metrics used to assess climate-related risks and opportunities. ● GHG Emissions: Report Scope 1, Scope 2, and where appropriate, Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. ● Targets: Share the targets set for managing these risks and opportunities, and your performance against them. 5️⃣ Scenario Analysis: ● Climate Scenarios: Conduct scenario analysis considering at least two scenarios - one limiting global temperature increase to 1.5°C and another exceeding 2°C. Integrate this analysis into your strategy and risk management. 🍃 Why Does This Matter? 🔸Climate Risks: Understand the physical and transition risks that could impact your business—from extreme weather events to new regulations and market shifts. 🔹Climate Opportunities: Explore opportunities for resource efficiency, energy transition, innovation, and improved access to capital.
