This may sound like something from the movies, but this sort of thing is happening to businesses of all sizes. You do not have to be a multi-million-pound company to become the victim of a cyber attack Todays news features a company has been hacked after accidentally hiring a North Korean cyber criminal as a remote IT worker. The unidentified firm hired the technician after he faked his employment history and personal details. Once given access to the company’s computer network, the hacker downloaded sensitive company data and sent a ransom demand. The firm which is based in the UK, US or Australia did not want to be named. It has allowed cyber responders from Secureworks to report the hack to spread awareness and warn others. It was great to see today that the Nobel Prize for Physics has been shared between two scientists attributed with key roles in the invention of Artificial Intelligence - Geoffrey Hinton and John Hopfield. Yet it's significant that both men have concerns about the dangers that machines could eventually outsmart humans. This should be a lesson to us all to be responsible in our use of technology like AI - and importantly protect ourselves and our businesses from malicious cyber attacks by those intent on using great inventions against the spirit in which they were perceived.
